Great new paper shows that using knowledge from non-English language journals can strengthen global biodiversity databases. Including info from Brazilian journals increased species & population coverage & reduced uncertainty in population trends besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
Knowledge from non‐English‐language studies broadens contributions to conservation policy and helps to tackle bias in biodiversity data
Collecting data from local sources markedly further strengthens global biodiversity databases by adding species not previously included in international datasets. Furthermore, the addition of these d...

Very glad to see the second chapter of my PhD published in JEB and feel honored that it has been picked as this month's issue "Editor's choice" and cover image! It's been a long and important team effort leading up to these results!
The May issue of JEB is now online! Read it here:

Another birding paper! 🐦 Where do the Nearctic landbirds that show up in Europe each autumn come from? We usually assume they come from NE populations, pushed off course by bad weather - but is that the whole story? #ornithology 1/3

Whereas first arrival has advanced over the long-term study, first laying hasn't (and the same holds true when we look at the averages). Still, 2025 is a fairly early year, as there are only 8 years with an earlier first egg versus 23 with a later first egg. #phenology #seabirds

Birding paper! In the last Dutch Birding issue, we published a detailed paper on the ID of Great Egret taxa in non-breeding plumage. We analyzed photos of hundreds of individuals to find key criteria distinguishing the four taxa. A short illustrated summary can be found in this thread. #birding

In our latest preprint, we showcase how to use a phylogenetic meta-analysis of variance to test evolutionary hypotheses across species.

We collected data for 172 birds (314 populations) to test patterns of stabilising selection and canalisation for wing length.

species are on the move in many places due to climate change

we wrote a paper arguing that we need to focus more on the *types* of movements we are seeing, as true range shifts have really different consequences from say range expansions
