Last night I watched techconnectify.bsky.social's video about old photographic processes and this morning YT showed me a guy who built a portable wet plate lab and takes photos with the old collodion process.

This is true, I'd recommend the book to anyone.
I think a lot of people see the title and expect Seeing Like A State to be right/libertarian but it's actually about high modernism destroying indigenous ways of knowing.

This weekend I played in a tournament where they had the Elton John collector's edition. It was the nicest and most flamboyant pinball machine I've ever seen. A laser projector between the two screens on top made patterns on the ceiling, which reflected on the glass of other games and confused me.

A huge group of people are in a giant hole in the middle of a rolling field. There is a large sign with an arrow pointing to the hole that says "HOLE." Suddenly the group's attention turns to a new hole, complete with a giant sign with an arrow pointing to it that says "NEW HOLE." One person points to the new hole and says "hey look! Someone made a new hole!" The mass clamours out of the old hole and makes a bee-line toward the new hole. It's chaos. One person, now situated in the new hole says "this feels like how the old hole used to feel." Another person nods in agreement.

I've noticed Sora gets confused about which character should be saying which line e.g. in the "distracted boyfriend" meme video it ends with the bf saying "I'm right here" and the gf saying "sorry, it was reflex"
I think this would be hard to explain if the video was generated without a script.

One thing that determines what they train on will be whether an "opt out" standard becomes widely adopted. If that happens, I'm concerned that a big chunk of the left will remove themselves from the corpus, shifting LLMs to the right.
