Paxton had to quickly roll out of the way of his incoming Pokémon in order to not be flattened. He couldn't believe it, the Feraligatr just LITERALLY ATE his attack. He quickly went to check on Venusaur... who was out cold.
"...you did good buddy." He said as he lifted the pokeball.

A giant foot flew out of the smoke, drop-kicking Venusaur squarely in the forehead! Outrage overpowered Energy Ball!
“ Alright. I think that's enough! ” A red beam of light recalled Feraligatr. Ash placed the Poké Ball on his belt.

Paxton had to quickly roll out of the way of his incoming Pokémon in order to not be flattened. He couldn't believe it, the Feraligatr just LITERALLY ATE his attack. He quickly went to check on Venusaur... who was out cold.

Feraligatr roared and snarled with ferocity, allowing himself to fall into a berserk state; lunging at Venusaur to slash, bite, and kick at the Seed Pokémon without mercy!
It would break Feraligatr's composure in his frenzy, but with Venusaur's Solar Beam a factor, they might as well go for broke!

Paxton slid his now clean clothes back on, looking in the mirror to make sure he still looks good. He looks great. He reaches for his hat... which isn't on the counter. He looks around and doesn't see it.

The Ice Fang hit hard, causing Venusaur to release Feraligatr right as the Solar beam went off. The blast hit Feraligatr at first which sent the 'mon flying but the majority of it went into the sky as Venusaur stumbled back from the attack.
Maybe Feraligatr's juggernaut strength could also be used to hoist Venusaur and aim his flower elsewhere.
There was also an even greater chance that Solar Beam would blast him point-blank if Venusaur endured Ice Fang.
If that attack didn't take out Feraligatr, it would still deal massive damage!

While Dragon Dance was certainly the optimal move there Paxton did not anticipate Feraligatr to have such amazing agility, at least not enough to pull something like that. That being said he wouldn't let a surprise make him panic.

Water wrapped around the Pokémon's tail like a ribbon, extending beyond its reach. With Feraligatr's spin, the water's narrow surface area guaranteed a nasty crack of the whip, if it landed!
There was also the possibility that it would lower Venusaur's defense. What would Paxton do!?
