In light of the cut to SNAP this coming month, I'd like to share that Aldi grocery stores have a "Feast for 10" deal for $40 until 12/24. It includes everything for making turkey, sides, and dessert.

The 400 richest Americans are now worth a record $6.6 trillion.

The entire bottom 50% of America is worth just $4.2 trillion.

Read that back.

When 400 people control more wealth than half a country’s population, we have a very serious problem.
Also, the foreshadowing of Jay Bhattacharya as a non-ideological actor who's guided by the facts flies in the face of everything national and international experts have said about his COVID messaging and Great Barrington Declaration.
This was hard to listen to, honestly. I appreciate the inclusion of a conservative voice in the conversation, but I really don't understand letting him say that free speech has been compromised in Harvard without once asking the obvious question: "what is the view you feel you cannot express?"

My congratulations to all Baseball Perverts. It was their "super bowl" last night and it seems they all had a very bad time (in their culture that's how you have a good time)
Maybe my reasoning here is flawed, but I would think that if a supermajority agrees that "we're too divided", maybe they ARE wrong.

ICE detained a Virginia mom while she was driving her 16yo daughter to school bc she couldn’t recall her SS#.

“The agent got flustered and lunged at her,” said her daughter.

ICE arrested her even after she showed proof of legal status.

“I want this video out there because I want my mother home.”

Again, this precise use case is why these systems exist-to proliferate people’s racist (transphobic, misogynistic…) imaginary at scale. This should not be seen as a “misuse” but rather the product being used exactly as intended.

That's literally the only way Eleizer Yudkowsky knows how to write, because his entire belief system is so absurd it can only seem plausible if described in parables and references to movies or video games
Jesus this book is tedious. The authors like to explain everything through little made up fables and fictional dialog between anthropomorphized characters. Just skipping page after page of nonsense writing.

In late 80s I was social worker in Houston working in Verification unit for food stamps. Made unannounced home visits to verify applicants were qualified &had reported all income etc. Unit was dismantled because cost more to run than were recovering. Very little fraud. So many myths/lies about SNAP
As SNAP hangs in the balance for nearly 42 million people, misinformation is rampant. Myths of laziness and fraud persist when we should be talking about too low wages for workers, income inequality, and our threadbare social safety net.

In this guest post, Adam Chandler sorts fact from fiction:
SNAP benefits feed essential needs while still leaving many hungry for more
Journalist and author Adam Chandler explains what so much of the conversation about them gets wrong.

Such a perfect example of what we all give up when we refuse to address basic inequalities. I don't want to live in a country where all the public space is militarized to keep hungry people from stealing food, just give them money to buy food!

As a naturalized US citizen, I will tell you that, while there's no need to condescend and that the idea an outsider would understand things "better" is preposterous, an outside perspective IS different and can illuminate things you miss from the inside. The Bush years were a striking example.

INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE

SECOND INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE OVER ZOOM TO MEET MORE OF THE TEAM

UNFORTUNATELY, YOU HAVE NOT BEEN SUCCESSFUL ON THIS OCCASION, BUT WE HOPE YOU'LL APPLY FOR FUTURE POSITIONS WITH THE VAMPIRE
Since you're a D&D guy, the discussion of Alien and the framing of space truckers reminded me of the horror RPG "Mothership" (highly recommend), which is sort of Alien with the serial numbers filed off. Interestingly, the game's four classes are: Marine, Scientist, Android... and Teamster.
Because we understand and know how to make machines but have zero clue what minds even are.
I wonder how she would react to them offering it a peer review opportunity to a woman with different reproductive organs. It's almost, ALMOST, as if whining is their whole agenda.
