📌 Hi, I'm Patrick. I tell stories.

I make podcasts: @uepodca.st, The Long Rest (coming soon), www.noirvel.com

I dabble in game design: grimmgames.org, linktr.ee/WasteAndWild...

and I compose music, design graphics, and more.

I mean this in a nice way

If you think Twitch is gonna stop ICE from taking you, I've got a bridge to sell you

Due to growing fear among top creators about the risks of attending Twitchcon (and subsequent cancellations), Twitch has shared an update on safety measures at the convention.

- Venue Security + San Diego Police
- Rapid Response Command Center
- Visible + Hidden Security

Medium and Substack are the biggest players that do Specifically This, but Medium has dicey ownership stuff and Substack is Nazis.

Patreon would work! I know very serious people who swear by Ghost, but it might be overkill.

HAVING SAID ALL THAT,

I do want to point out the treatment that Chicago is getting compared to Portland.

Like really sit in it and think about the difference in treatments that the city of Chicago is getting compared to Portland.

What could be the difference, I wonder - hmmmmm.
classicalglaiza.com
Living in the Portland area, I have had zero, ZERO, people reaching out to me to see if we're war ravaged, compared to other times when I lived in "turbulent" areas.

And I do think it's because of the dancing frogs.

You'd have to ask them, I suppose 😂

Unsexy infrastructure is good.

The "anarchists" I have met who don't want to have a society that can manufacture and distribute basic life-saving medications can fuck off.

Being cool with death and suffering in favor of a political aesthetic is bad, actually. It doesn't matter who's doing it.
phoenixcalida.bsky.social
My spicy take for this moment-

Too many of you do not understand the concept of infrastructure. How systems are built, how systems are maintained.

You want big bold action but haven't committed to the planning and the boring mundane tasks needed to make said action possible.

Can't believe @emilygreymoore.bsky.social finally get to celebrate our wedding this month.

It's been two years since we eloped and I'm so excited to finally share it with friends and family.

This movie looks like AI slop for the booktok girlies but I DID laugh out loud at the “quotes” in the name

Hivemind, I've got a buddy who' GM'ing for a friend with DID. This friend wants their character to also experience DID, and have that mechanically reflected somehow.

What's the move here?

(Placeholder for digression about the importance of mutual aid and proportional representation, better education, and every other intersecting conversation about how a disconnected and manipulable petit bourgeois is created from the raw clay of human emotion)

I think this might be the ONLY thing you and I disagree on, politically. I think it's entirely understandable (almost REASONABLE) how discomfort-averse people are. Avoiding discomfort is a protective response — and a powerful one that can be easily hijacked by robber barons.

Portland has been about 10x busier than usual with helicopters (and F-16s). I can only imagine what Chicago is going through right now.
themonstersknow.com
It's a small thing amid all the other things, but I can report that we've been listening to helicopters overhead ALL. MORNING.

Chicago does not normally get this amount of helicopter traffic. Like, usually when a helicopter flies overhead, kids point and yell, "Helicopter!"

It's been nonstop.

This might feel dismissive of what is, ultimately, a very real threat — but it's true.

Fascism relies on a massive bloc of nihilistic supporters only interested in their own comfort to garner popular support. It has no other appeal to the masses.
bammax.itch.io
It's just lazy baby politics. A toddler's understanding of living in and being a part of a society. Conservative policy logic is written in crayon.

Fascism is capitalism in decay. Yes, Trump wants power. But his backers want property.

The "Portland plywood windows" angle is a psy-op. Yes, there are still vacant storefronts, post-pandemic. But that's because Portland prioritizes local businesses.

The only reason other cities "recovered" faster is because big box monopoly took over.

Is this topical to something that happened recently? Or just a general reminder?

I am not at all surprised at this collab between two native New Yorkers — but also no one has more juice than Zohran and tabletop is a keystone for the future of entertainment.

It’s all right there to read.
