Johnny Mateer is not healed at 17 days. Not saying it will fail, but the biology there is not stable enough at this point. Metal is there to compress and allow for faster, more predictable healing; it doesn’t replace healing.

Hope he is getting good advice.

Can you put into words what that purpose is? You and the frog have really become icons of this protest.

There’s been a nice overall whimsy that has shown up. The frog is amazing. We had a bunch of other inflatable people here last night, too. I saw people playing Twister the other day.

What they rely on is fear. So by coming out in an absurdist manner, it speaks to them, to some extent, that we’re actually not that afraid.

It also dismantles their narrative a little bit. When they try to describe this situation as “war-torn,” it becomes much harder to take them seriously when they have to post a video saying [U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security] Kristi Noem is up on the balcony staring over the Antifa Army and it’s, like, eight journalists and five protesters and one of them is in a chicken suit.

What so many non-medical people have memory-holed about peak-covid is that beyond-capacity ICUs/ERs brought the entire system to a halt. Inelasticity in high-acuity settings is always a crisis for hospitals, where almost every specialty relies on acute care services. Get vaccinated, people.

We all know someone who claimed to be gluten intolerant but would be absolutely fine housing a bowl of pasta without repercussions. Just because a person claimed to be something they weren’t doesn’t mean that the thing doesn’t exist.

Black History Month starts tomorrow, and it got me thinking. Many of my friends lead comfortable lives. They have reached a station in life where they can ride out the day-to-day nonsense and be an observer.
The same could have been said for those who heard about the troubles that African Americans were having in the South in the 1960s. It wasn't until students got involved, and images like these were splashed across the pages of Northern newspapers and magazines, that a critical mass became "uncomfortable" with the direction of the country and things started to change.
You can stay comfortable. Your life, and the lives of most of your family and friends will not change. But the vulnerable members of our society will suffer; and you will have to decide if you are comfortable with that.

There are 28,000 farriers in the US. Farriers are the skilled craftsmen who handle the shoeing of horses. It wouldn’t make sense to craft domestic policy around just 28k farriers, especially if helping farriers actively harmed the rest of us.

A lot of the folks looking around and suddenly saying, “This shouldn’t be happening in America,” were also the people who fiercely rebutted the idea that demonizing trans people was a stepping stone on the way to fascism.

The stickiness of polls before October is the dumbest thing ever. Preseason ranks are a crap shoot. Penn State was upset, but they were far from the 7th best team. It’s week 5 and they still don’t have a Power 4 win. September’s polls should be chaos. Teams should enter and leave Top 25 constantly
