there were also pokemon loc docs from the gigaleak where they were like "not many people know what a dugong is, but if we name the pokemon dewgong well, people just might learn something new :)" and well... yes, i suppose i did.
take this with a big grain of salt because I could be misremembering but I remember reading a Pokémon translator saying he translated a line as "soft, loamy soil" to teach kids a new word and he was right. I did learn what loamy meant from Pokémon in fact
there is almost no feedback I will reflexively ignore as a game developer but “you shouldn’t name something X because people don’t know that word” is one of them. oh no! You might learn a new word! God forbid you take away a piece of knowledge from a game that’s not a brand of gun or some shit lol

I got so stoned at a Mets game once I compared the Jumbotron to the top screen of a Nintendo DS bc it had “a bunch of useful contextual information” and the field to the bottom screen bc “it’s where the game is actually played”

i think one of the things i loved most about japan was how many eateries have "meal sets" and how that triggered the part of me thats always had an obsession with airline and cafeteria food. i can't fully explain it but I love going to restaurants and ordering Meal C

when the defunctland said the talking et animatronic spawned an iconic moment in theme park history i thought he meant the deedee deedee deedee clip and when it was something else i paused to post my disappointment but then he played the clip right after and i had to pause again to delete the post
