After closing my laptop on Friday afternoon and reopening it this morning, I received 7 peer review requests. One is absolutely unrelated to my expertise, but 6 are. I cannot and do not accept more than one per week, so I have to bump 5 back into the system. This hardly seems sustainable.

We do have panels, and the car charging point has a setting that only uses our own electricity, so that is largely automated

We've always been trying to minimise our electricity consumption, saving where we could. Most of those saves are tiny, but at up to a lot. Now, however, we have an electric car and our regular electricity consumption dwarfs that of that car. >

I'm genuinely impressed. In my own thesis, on page 188 I finally reached the point where I placed the last full stop after the last reference. That being said, the rigour in some of this German academic writing is intimidating.

Over two decades ago, the Dutch application procedure has been cut back to a CV and a letter. If we need a reference, we'll call someone, but never in the first round. Proof of everything else comes later and only for the person actually hired. Also great for those on the hiring committees!
