I doubt that they would actually read or pay attention to this, but if you are an AI account or promoting an AI-based service please do not follow me. I will block any AI based accounts that I find.
Here are my two resolutions for the new year, and these should be manageable, making ones too hard has been pointless for me at least:

1. Find a way that I can comfortably and reliably exercise. Not get fitter, just find what works for me.
2. Release a play-test or demo of my computer game.

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate, and to those who do not; g'day.

For me Christmas has no real religious significance to my family. But it's a nice excuse to spend time with my family and to have a lovely meal. So to everyone who doesn't celebrate it, I hope you have a nice day as well.

If I finish my game, and I sincerely hope to, you can be confident that nothing in it will be made by gen AI. Not just because I dislike the ethics of the industry that has grown around it, but mostly because I enjoy the design, the programming, making the art and eventually the music for it.

I have a lot of respect for anyone who does animation work. Even making a relatively simple thing like this took a while and working on the next part has been a bit exhausting. Fun, but tiring!

For a game I did not know existed until a few days ago, a surprising (to me) number of people on my timeline are talking about the game HORSES. It's...certainly not a title I would ever play myself though. But did it deserve to be banned? People whose opinions I trust don't seem to think so anyway.

I think I am reaching the point where I am confidently planning to do my sprite animations in one of the most complicated ways I could choose. Instead of making individual frames for each part, I want to make frames for each layer of the animation that I can combine. Kind of like a puppet.

Well I'm back, dad was having problems with pain overnight and it didn't clear up. He also had no appetite for dinner tonight. So unfortunately I've had to take him, and mum, back to the hospital. At least he's not as badly off as he was on Saturday morning but tonight has other people waiting too.

As promised I am playing some more Anno 117: Pax Romana tonight. The vibes will be just as cozy even though the energy will be a bit lower. Come watch or chat at: www.twitch.tv/periapsys

While I considered taking tonight off, I will still stream some more Anno tonight. I am definitely still out of sorts, I feel tired despite having a chance to rest and sleep properly last night. But a nice and relaxed city building stream will be the sort of energy level I feel up to right now.

I got called by mum to take my dad who was in extreme pain and feeling sick, and her to the hospital at 3am yesterday. Doctors think it was most likely a kidney stone and couldn't find anything worse so he was discharged and is doing much better today. Aside from all of us being very tired at least.

I've been so excited for this and now it's here. Anno 117: Pax Romana. Come watch or hangout for some peaceful citybuilding vibes at: www.twitch.tv/periapsys

I don't really get this recent trend of paying to 'adopt' a character an artist has drawn. Well, I get it in the abstract, but don't get why it seems at least somewhat popular. But artists are also generally not super rich and I am all for a way for them to get money for drawing things they like!

I wonder if in 200 years whether our descendents living in a world made harsher and more inhospitable will see the ruins of the genAI datacenters and wonder why we ruined the Earth to make a crude facsimile of a person and art, when we could just speak to the people around us and see their art.

I have wondered for a while, after a bunch of acquisitions that seem generally terrible for any customer and consumer, if there are legal ways for people to force someone to sell a company or if it's just all swinging life changing amounts of money around and back-room deals.

Are we going to call all the gen AI that writes porn "degenerative AI"?
October 29, 2025 at 10:24 AM
I saw a post a little while ago about something with a quote from someone basically saying nothing is as pithy or boring as a person talking about their dreams. My assumption was that it was about goals and aspirations than the dreams you have while being asleep, but either way it got me thinking.

I feel like if you ask parents if they would rather put a picture their children drew, or a gen AI image generated by a prompt their children wrote, they'll want to show off the picture the child drew. The point of art and media is the intent and craft that went into making it.

I hate that I explained the holodeck from Star Trek as "generative AI but 3D and good quality" and he understood it immediately. We could have done with Trek predicting this particular phenomena...

I'm staying with my parents while my apartment flooring is replaced due to water damage. Their toilet has a red bulb so when you turn it on at night it doesn't blast your eyes with harsh light. It's a good idea and gentler in the middle of the night. It also feels like the entrance to hell.

I'm not sure what the Bluesky team is expecting by trying to make this place more like Xitter. People left there for a *reason*, and Bluesky does not have the cultural inertia to Xitter built up to try to retain businesses and advertising.

Having seen the cost of my brother battling cancer 10 years ago, with the support of the Australian pharmaceutical benefits scheme I cannot imagine how much additionally awful it would be to be in the US and have to deal with that on top of dealing with the US healthcare system...

It's been wild to try and learn what everyone has been vague posting about today. I'm not too surprised that the CEO is trying to deflect the frustrations and criticisms of many people by silly posting.

Given everything going on with the US and censoring anything queer or adult related, I'm beginning to think the Australian group was just an excuse by the payment processors and they just wanted to do this anyway.
