I love my wife and my cats, lament barely maintaining a writing habit, & sometimes talk about knitting.

Apparently my endless discussion of Silksong made enough of an impression for it to show up in my Christmas gifts this year.

Got myself an early Christmas present... a sprained right wrist.

Good thing 90% of my homemade Christmas presents are finished, and that my wife is so willing to pitch in on the remainder. #fuck2025

I never want someone to email me the week before Christmas asking what I would like as a gift.

We don't live somewhere you can just find the thing I would ask for, and we're out of the window of shipping things. Why are you asking me this today?

I'm fairly certain managing my dehydration with coldbrew isn't the best choice. However, caffeine is the only thing keeping me clinging to this ledge of productivity. So, here we are.

The latest in how circumstances change things: 15 years ago, extremely broke, living with my parents... I would have been thrilled to use the company gift of a $100 credit for some work-branded clothing.

Now? I'm less desperate, and a little too queer for any of the "work" styles to fit well.

Checking stuff off my Christmas gift list:

2 hanks of handspun yarn, I managed to get over 400 yards on each of them. Still need to work on my consistency with the weight, but they're probably light to regular fingering weight.

At least there is some benefit to it "feeling like" -33F.
Our first test at making ice luminaries seems to have mostly been as success. We need better candles for some of our shorter results, but the one out of our five-gallon bucket fits just right.

In a promising upturn, our missing packages have (mostly) been located. And I've now been jabbed for COVID and the flu. We'll see how those handle over the weekend....

I don't envy anyone in parcel delivery right now. But, I am also now scrambling to try to figure out if they just gave us the wrong parcel box key or if packages delivered to our community mailbox have gone missing 2 days in a row (since we didn't check the box yesterday).

It's only the 10th of December, there is so much more snow to come. Now, it seems completely manageable, but I'm really curious to see where the heck this stuff is going to go if/when the pile starts to get to shoulder height.

Maybe we will need that snow scoop and a ramp into our yard...
December 10, 2025 at 2:55 PM
And just like that, my evening full of activities has reverted to our typical existence with the potential arrival of weather.

I'm very curious to see if the predicted quantity of heavy snow (4-7 inches) will come to pass...
December 9, 2025 at 6:13 PM
We are responsible for snow removal for the first time in 5 years, and I'm annoyed at myself for how much I've been admiring the job I did last night.

I know another round is coming, but our sidewalk is very clear and our parking area is also neat. The morning plow didn't do us any favors though.

We are reaping the benefits of living in a one story house. No downstairs neighbors to worry about means the 15 minute aerobic walking videos can be used without guilt.

It's too fucking cold to be outside, so this is the best alternative... for the moment anyway.

Our DM has to be so done with our party. She basically offered us an easy button to get to our final BBEG, which means we should wrap up our 2 year campaign by the end of January.

Next session is travel and prep, and then we fight after the new year.

I'm burning off my "excess" PTO on Fridays for the rest of this month since I'm only allowed to roll over 80 hours.

Tomorrow was supposed to be the day I sit and watch ancient Christmas movies and spin the yarn.

Now I'm probably going to do those with a massive pit in my stomach. Yay jobs!
December 4, 2025 at 10:17 PM
Today is one of those days when I realize I have a fake job that someone made up because someone made up another job, and it's fake jobs all the way down.

‘Sodomy non sapiens,’ said Albert under his breath.

‘What does that mean?’

‘Means I’m buggered if I know.’"

My week off from work comes to a close today. It's been full of cleaning, cooking, and baking. And I capped it off by completely servicing our KitchenAid mixer and making turkey wild rice soup.

I'm not sure how the experience of going back to work is going to compare to all of this.
December 1, 2025 at 12:40 AM
In the throes of prepping for hosting the big bird meal tomorrow.

"Thankfully" it's mostly meal prep and not the frantic housecleaning I grew up with.

I'm also putting on Band of Brothers, since at some point in my early adulthood that was always on during this holiday.

Today's episode of @sayswhopodcast.com is taking me back to the time of my long gone LiveJournal.

The cringe is only bearable because I'm experiencing it by proxy.

Hey so “underage girls” are…children. The word you’re looking for is children. They’re not like, women-in-waiting or women-lite or whatever. They’re children. I think some of you are very uncomfortable with what that means for you but it is still true.
