I decided I'm going to isolate the gate and work on it as a mini diorama. I'll add grass and a path around it and figure out my grass textures, stone pavings, foliage, before returning to the bigger scene.

This is just getting ridiculous. Affordable personal computing is looking to become even more challenging. RAM - for the longest time - was one of the more price relaxed categories of a PC purchase. Not anymore for the foreseeable future. I have no idea how the world keeps on this trajectory.
Crucial is shutting down — because Micron wants to sell its RAM and SSDs to AI companies instead. It’s already getting hard to build an affordable PC, and the exit of the longstanding provider of consumer memory is going to make that even more challenging www.theverge.com/news/837594/...

Another blow to PC gaming.

When an Unreal 5.3+ game runs, it will immediately kick off precompilation of global shaders. You should wait for that to complete before starting the game, otherwise you'll likely get hitches. You do that with the NumPrecompilingPSOsRemaining node. #uetips

Some UVs. Love UVs.

The left and right side of the geometry have their UVs overlapped, so I save on texel density (and on my sanity when I start hand painting on top).

Oh how I've loved working in indie games & getting to paint all the cool things ❤️✨

These assets are all from a demo level for a slavic vampire game called Thirst - would have loved to spend a year or two in this world

Flickr makes me feel old. Time moved but Flickr stood still. It’s digital catalogues are like a graveyard.

I go looking for reference photos for 3D and I find stuff taken in 2007, but has just 11 views.
Comment under, dated “16y ago” delivered in old html design that is more pragmatic than flashy.

I found out it's from an ancient CGI titled "Sunstone" (1979). It's quite the trip to watch it.

Reading old computer graphics white papers is super fun because every so often you come across the most liminal, weird looking images. Like this one from 1983.

ooo it's so interesting seeing how dual quaternion splines solve extreme rotational differences!

I made it prefer the shortest path within the quaternion double cover, so when control points pass the 180 degree switch with its neighbors, the path also changes its shape!
