Pittsburgh DSA's Statement: End the US War against Venezuela and Release Nicolas Maduro In the early morning of January 3, 2025, the United States invaded Venezuela and kidnapped President Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores. This is the latest in a series of murderous, lawless actions taken by the Trump administration in violation of Venezuelan sovereignty. The United States government has made plain it intends to seize Venezuela’s oil and install an imperial-puppet regime dominated by American corporate interests. This is simply the latest effort in the United States’ decades long neo-colonialist imperialist war on the nation and it’s people in order to rob it of the world’s largest oil reserves. Pittsburgh DSA stands in solidarity with the Venezuelan people. We condemn these outrageous actions and call for the immediate release of President Maduro and Cilia Flores and a complete cessation of hostilities towards Venezuela, including an end to the military blockade, sanctions, and horrific strikes on Venezuelan people.

Pittsburgh DSA's Statement in Solidarity with SNAP Benefit Recipients. (1/2)

The text reads Pittsburgh DSA stands In solidarity with victims of snap cuts. “This empire is at war with its poorest communities” As our government enters month two of its shut down, Pittsburgh DSA stands in solidarity and community with those experiencing food insecurity, and now, cuts to SNAP (also known as "foodstamps"). pghdsa.org The Trump Administration could ensure that benefit continue to be paid by complying with a Federal Court Order and releasing $6 Billion in from the SNAP emergency reserve. So far, it has chosen not to do so. Nearly 40% of SNAP recipients are children. Our hearts and solidarity are with them and their caregivers especially- victims of an incompetent federal government. Countless others are elders, neighbors with disabilities, and hard-working folks, caring for one another. Cutting SNAP benefits at a time when Americans are reeling from sky-high healthcare premiums, food prices, and electricity bills, our leaders subsidize tax breaks for the rich, bailouts for capitalist leaders, daily bombings of Somalia, and the genocidal interests of the settler colonial project known as "Israel" at the same time. Meanwhile, the corporate oligarchy uses the stolen wages of the working class to build massive carceral structures, police training facilities, and immigration detention centers across the nation. We experience our friends and neighbors being disappeared across the empire each day through the perils and violence of poverty: through carceral institutions, exposure to the elements, lack of healthcare access, or as byproducts of the free labor that the 13th amendment "legally" robs from us. Even if foodstamp benefits are restored today, the Trump administration continues to implement more difficult barriers for the poor and disabled to qualify for food support. This is a tactic of eugenics targeting those that have no value to the oligarchy: folks who are too young, old, or disabled to work for Capitalists' poverty wages. Don't cover your eyes and ears in this moment! What we're experiencing today is the deadliness of the imperial boomerang and the fulfillment of a promise: what Imperialism does abroad, Fascism and the willful ignorance of liberalism will repeat at home. As this country becomes increasingly militarized and conscientious objectors to violence become increasingly criminalized, suppressed in the algorithms that rule our communications, or slandered and murdered by police, they're saying the quiet part out loud: this is a war on the poor, and the empire is ready to inflict violence in more creative ways than you can yet imagine. Make no mistake that SNAP cuts are the empire's way of declaring one thing: this empire is at war with its poorest communities, and at best they don't care if working class children, disabled, houseless and elderly family members die by slow starvation.
