63 people died of hunger in Gaza this month only. People seeking aid are getting killed. The situation is getting worse. The Israeli government is responsible for the humanitarian crisis and the looming famine. How is this still possible? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Famine 'currently playing out' in Gaza, UN-backed experts warn
It comes as aid agencies warn Israel's recent measures to increase aid supplies are not enough.

Great to hear Nicole L. Asquith and Justin Ellis share findings from the inquiry into LGBTQ #hatecrime in New South Wales. So many shared issues with Europe, especially the poor quality or absence of police data and its links to hate crime legislation. @bschcnetwork.bsky.social

Fascinating to see emerging new typologies of offenders, like Valerie Houghton and Jane Healy's work on disablist hate crime offenders showing how distinct this form of violence is @bschcnetwork.bsky.social

🇵🇱Poland’s attempt to extend #hatecrime and #hatespeech laws was blocked by the outgoing president. This weekend’s elections could change that. If you're interested in learning about the politics of hate in Europe, my book is now in Open Access: link.springer.com/book/10.1007...
State Responses to Anti-LGBT Violence
This book analyzes the state responses to hate crimes against LGBT people in Poland within the European context.

All in the name of protecting Poles from "gender ideology" & same-sex marriage.

From the LGBT perspective, he ends his presidency the same way he started it - by striking down the hard-won legal protections, first by vetoing the legal gender recognition law in 2015, now blocking the reform of the criminal code.

The Polish president Andrzej Duda effectively blocked the new law extending hate crime and hate speech protections to sexual orientation, gender, disability, and age, by asking the compromised Constitutional Court for a legal review.

2/2 ✍️ Before becoming law, the bill must be approved by the upper chamber & signed by the president who holds veto power. A crucial moment for equality and security of #hatecrime victims in Poland! 🇵🇱

1/2 🏛️ Poland's lower chamber has passed a bill extending hate crime & hate speech protections to victims targeted for their sexual orientation, disability, gender, or age. However, gender identity is not explicitly included. #HumanRights #Poland
