Just found out that Peter Thiele may be behind the push for the US to colonize Greenland, all in order to build a techno-utopian city called Praxis. Sounds like a bad conspiracy theory except that it's real.

A 100x this
Trying to measure coding productivity is, and always will be, a fool's errand.

Why? Because I can go for a walk then take a shower and have an idea, then write a single line of code that fixes everything I was working on.

Immense productivity, but by most metrics I didn't do anything at all.

Was wondering about the impact of USAID cuts since I have seen much in the news, and found this. These people are monsters.

15 years in the making, we confirmed that mitochondria - the powerhouse of the cell - have an unusual localization in patients who experience psychosis (including schizophrenia and bipolar disorders). You’ll never guess what kind of patient cells we used to make this discovery… 🧵

Found a scammer on FB creating ads, linking to a site that impersonates a local tabloid. Quite an elaborate scam, I guess LLM's make this easy. www.facebook.com/ads/library/...

Seen this comparison several times in different forms. Comparing a specific grant which is an increase on TOP of total EU science funding, to US total funding. Sure the EU could be investing more but let's compare apples to apples. Also, is the EU expected to just instantly double it's budget? How?
$500 million is… less than 1.25% of the NIH’s 2024 budget.

When I say there is no capacity to absorb the shock, I mean it.
We will put forward a 500 million package for 2025-2027 to make Europe a magnet for researchers.

As well as ambitious proposals for R&I in the next EU budget.

We will also offer the best and brightest the right incentives to come to Europe ↓

Forget the 60k rows part. His "hard drive overheated" ?!
there's a certain kind of grifter whose whole bit is stringing together 500-word versions of "hacking the mainframe... I'm in". people who pay for twitter like to then fawn over how brilliant these people are. mostly harmless, except when they have the ear of someone dismantling our government
It's a perfect encapsulation of where the right is at intellectually these days that Elon's favorite data person is like 'I'm sorry, I tried to process 60k rows of data and my computer exploded'

A friend included this anti-acknowledgement section on her PhD thesis. She also added the proposition: “Systematic bullying and undermining of girls and women in STEM starts early on and is the reason why they do not stay in science and related fields.”
Absurd we still need to go through this

It's tempting to short Tesla given the current situation, but remember that it's a meme stock fueled by greed. Laws of logic don't apply here.
Tesla stock price since Inauguration Day. Absolutely incredible Elon is awarding himself government contracts and investors are still 😵‍💫
