Hello I have become a CEO now, therefore I have forgotten everything about programming and think that we should fire our QA team because we should just not have any bugs

Why do we have a whole team of people to find our errors instead of just not making errors?

That'll be 20 million dollars please

Many people, myself included, yearn for the days when you just bought a game once and that was it.

But nostalgia blinds us to the downsides.

I was playing KOTOR 2 on Xbox and ran into a bug where the only solutions are "try until it randomly doesn't break once" or "start the whole game over"

We should force feed this post to every single gamer who says any word about a game dev.

Everyone who days "it's like the devs didn't even test" or something like that should be banned from playing video games until they release their own.
I’m going to say the same thing that I say to my 3rd graders when they criticize any of my art or a classmate’s art: Unless you can prove you can do it better, you need to leave it alone and mind ya business.

My game doesn't currently have any creatures made up by me, but if it did I would just use all the made up words I say to my cat as names.

I know it's way faster to get up and running with a game engine than building one yourself.

But I have to say, I've had very few issues with mysterious or difficult bugs when I've written all the code myself instead of trying to figure out what's wrong with two libraries interacting with each other

I think I'm going to add some flavor text to the cards despite having nowhere to visually put it on the card or to have it show up as a hover.

I'll just make like a zoom in page where you can see the full size card, the various artwork to choose from, and the flavor information.

I have played many games with amazing music in my day.

But I gotta say, to this day nothing makes me instantly lock in like the set point music for Mario Tennis on the GBC.

Just makes me feel "oh it's ON now". Especially compared to the rest of the really happy music in that game.

Now if only all the other games shoved into inapplicable categories would withdraw from them.

God The Game Awards sucks. How are they so bad at this?

Good for Megabonk though. It's not right to take an award when it shouldn't go to you, but that never stops anyone else.
'Megabonk' is wirhdrawing from The Game Awards (The Keighleys) because it was nominated under "Debut Indie Game" but the dev says thed made multiple games before under different names.

I need encouragement to do pretty much anything. So thank you everyone for encouraging me and telling me my game is good.

I would give up immediately and never would have started in the first place if there weren't people telling me my ideas/things are neat and cool.

Y'all keep me going.

I've spent so much time in NYC and EU that the size of your standard American house freaks me out.

Seriously, what is considered a small home in the US is GIANT.

We could help the housing crisis by not acting like every family needs 2000+ square feet and a garage and a yard.

I just finally got around to updating my Bluesky handle to my Neocities page (now that they actually reserve your old handle so it can't be stolen).

What this does for me, I don't know. But Neocities is awesome so I gotta represent.

This guy thinks optimization middleware is the same thing as generative AI. He wants to force this product down our throats and he has no idea what it even *is*.

CEOs ladies and gentlemen.

I wanted to make an easier to understand version of my game, so I made a simple mode that just changes instant speed cards to normal speed ones.

This is basically a shout out to the Magic the Gathering set I learned to play on that did the same, Starter 1999.

It wasn't popular, but good to learn.

The annoying thing about the "oh we left a placeholder" generative AI slop excuse is that that is EXACTLY NOT how you should be using placeholders. Anything "not obviously terrible with a panicked hurried half-awake glance" is getting shipped.
In gamedev, if you're using a placeholder asset, best practices involve marking it as placeholder so garishly and offensively clearly PLACEHOLDER that you can't possibly miss it. Also flagging that asset in the dev process so it can be identified quickly before the final build.

I see that the game awards have once again nominated some non indie games as indie game of the year.

Sigh.

Clair Obscur is not an indie game. Hades II and Silksong at this point have too much money for me to consider them indie, though at least you can make a weak argument. Expedition 33 just no.

Since video game companies keep lying about usage of gen AI, I think this should be brought up again.

I use it on my store page, and it's easy to see at a quick glance on the right hand sidebar.

Every time you use AI slop in your game, even as a placeholder, even if it's supposed to be temporary, you're helping to destroy the video game industry little by little.

Honestly LLMs are a great tool if you're someone who thinks beauty, art, human connection, and the planet are all a waste of time.

If you think that all meaningful parts of life should be replaced for some theoretical future gain in efficiency, then boy do we have a tool for you.

Trying to measure coding productivity is, and always will be, a fool's errand.

Why? Because I can go for a walk then take a shower and have an idea, then write a single line of code that fixes everything I was working on.

Immense productivity, but by most metrics I didn't do anything at all.

Ah Steam has rejected me for another fest as it continues to not allow me in anything that it isn't specifically tagged as

This time my medieval game with a feudal peasant system, with a villain based on a specific real life person during medieval times was found as not a fit for the medieval fest

It is always amazing how despite being on camera for a living, youtubers and streamers generally cannot act at all.
