I was looking for an analogy and searched what games people find thought provoking and holy hell this is depressing.

Just people mentioning the same handful of AAA games that didn't completely punt on story. And disco Elysium which, fair choice

PLAY INDIE GAMES PEOPLE. Please just try things ever!

I'm watching Star Trek TNG, which I had never watched before. Or any Star Trek.

And wtf this show is amazing. It's a perfect background but also throws in some highly thoughtful and touching bangers that make me look up and watch.

Why was this ever compared to Star Wars? All they share is space.

Today in incredibly stupid things to force AI nobody wants, in ways that nobody wants:
Sony has patented an AI gaming ghost that will play PlayStation games for you when you get stuck www.eurogamer.net/sony-has-pat...

After spending so many months making ridiculously complicated enemy behaviors, I'm playing some games and..... Wow these ai are dumb.

I'm playing GameCube fire emblem and the enemy behavior is so bad. Not even accounting for their own health, attacking for zero all the time. This is on hard too.

This is such a common refrain while thousands of indie games devs toil and do exactly what these people profess to want, if only they would take a look beyond what is shoved in front of their face.

Not trying to call this person out specifically but like, just look a little bit beneath the surface.
I miss when video games were an experiment

Hey we have this product that has dominated its market for 30+ years.

What if we rebranded it after this thing everyone hates?

I mean, it worked out so well for Meta and they don't look like complete morons at all!
They rebranded office as copilot

🤮🤮🤮🤮

Does anyone want a VERY deep cut video game recommendation?

Napple Tale: Arsia in Daydream for the Dreamcast. It's a 2.5D platformer made almost entirely by women. It is very creative and has a beautiful soundtrack made by Yoko Kanno.

It came out in 2000 but wasn't fan translated until 2019.

I started bringing one of my collections to Poland that I haven't talked about much on here.

Here is part of my collection of graded games where I was going for the lowest grade possible (0.5 C). I have more to bring.

That Kirby game is close, but not quite the perfect low score.

My partner have an unspoken arrangement that if we're drinking, she picks the movie.

So what I'm saying is we are watching barbie fairytopia.

God I hate this bibble thing. But honestly not as much as I hate a man doing anything in a barbie movie.

"Make the game you'd like to play" is great advice as long as you like things that aren't thoroughly tread ground already.

If you're not making anything new, yeah you'll get burned out on it.

I'm making the game I want to play because nobody else is making it.
"Make the game you'd like to play" is a great way to get burned out on a genre you love

But "make the game that compels you" is how you unlock the REAL sicko shit
There’s a lot of bad game dev advice out there but “Make the games you’d like to play” is one I’ve come to disagree with more and more.

Sorry I only go to the movies to watch movies that are 3+ hours long because otherwise it just isn't worth the $/hour/ The director really should add a whole bunch of filler to make it longer so I'm really getting my money's worth.

This is insane, but yet a common take with video games.
January 4, 2026 at 11:42 AM
I like when Steam users rely on stupid $/hour calculations so they go like:

"This game was absolutely lifechanging, one of the best games I ever played. But it was only a 12 hour game and it cost $15, so I have to leave a negative review."

Funny how this only applies to games and no other activity
Negative steam reviews will be like

“It’s a great game in every way but it’s worth maybe $10 instead of its price tag of $25, so that’s why I’m giving it a thumbs down”

and they’ve played the game for 40 hours.

What are your favorite background shows? Netflix has cracked down on me using other accounts and my parents prime account offers basically nothing when I'm out of the country. So I need to download something.

House and Pokemon are usually my favorites. Mostly don't need to look up + can miss things

Weak - scotch tape, painter's tape, masking tape

Strong - duct tape, packing tape

Doing its own thing - electrical tape

This is the guy who sits around talking to a bunch of AI all day instead of people right? The guy who gets a podcast AI transcribed and then talks to AI about it? The one who shoved AI into NOTEPAD?

It doesn't exactly seem like his cognitive abilities were amplified, though maybe they started at 0.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella says people should move beyond calling AI 'slop'

"We need to get beyond the arguments of slop vs sophistication and develop a new equilibrium ... that accounts for humans being equipped with these new cognitive amplifier tools as we relate to each other"

I was reminded out of the blue about an anime I loved and don't really remember at all. So I bought a Blu ray set and now it's time to watch paranoia agent with my partner.

RIP Satoshi Kon, he was my favorite and died way too young. Great weird stuff.

This is a very good thing and if my game is very successful I should do the same for pygame.

I kind of hope that my game will help prove pygame is better and faster than people think anyway.
We have many examples of wildly successful humans that continue to support open-source tools but our society is rigged around the assholes that want all the money and power for themselves 🙄

Anyways, here's a nice example in our beloved ConcernedApe

Stardew Valley creator ConcernedApe donates $125,000 to open-source C# framework his hit farming sim uses, with "an ongoing monthly commitment" to boot
Eric Barone is keeping dev tools open and easier to access

I'm rewatching Firefly and thinking about how much it must suck for all these people to pour all this time and effort into making a beautiful work of art, to have it canceled by some executive who doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground.

Basically this is why I don't really want a publisher.

I hate chairs, always have. They're extremely uncomfortable to me.

I posted that I like to do my game dev sitting on the floor on a Snorlax bean bag and for some reason this made multiple people mad??

What is wrong with people that they get mad over how someone else likes to sit in their own home?
January 2, 2026 at 4:34 PM
Here we have the classic two extra monitors connected to an ancient Microsoft surface + Snorlax bean bag chair game dev set up.

This is my natural habitat.

Indie game devs, what percentage of content roughly do you include in your demo? Do you carry over progress? Do you even have the story completed when you make it?

Still traveling, so have a video I took yesterday of a very old build of my game running in a virtual machine with a whopping 16 MB of VRAM.

Low spec gaming baby.
Here's an example I just took. This is a year old build, but running on a virtual machine with 16 MB of VRAM.

It's a little choppy (it wasn't before I increased the window scale for this video) but mostly runs just fine despite being on a crappy VM.

Sheesh Uber is scamming these days. I had my JFK flight canceled so I had to go through Newark, then that was moved to 4:30 am so I had to take a car instead of a bus.

Uber quoted me 68 bucks then charged me 96. Then claimed it was tolls, and a few buttons in help they reduced to 70.

Wtf?

I like how with humans pupils expand or shrink based on the amount of light present but with cats it's based on the amount of crimes they have prepared.

I'm glad I'm making my game to run on anything (no GPU required at all), since it doesn't appear anyone is going to be able to afford gaming computers any more.
