Remember the best way to make your indie game unique is to put a lot of yourself in it.

That's why mine is part serious, part poignant, part meme, and autistic and bipolar as hell. It is an overwhelming mix of things because I am an overwhelming person

There sure isn't anything out there like it.

Funny how that thing that says "just make it exist first, you can make it good later" with regards to game dev always shows artwork.

Almost like artwork can be swapped out easily and you can't just make a shit code base or a bad core game design good later.

Some things you want to do right first.

Personally I think with the number of games coming out, you need to take the time to make something that truly stands above everything else coming out.

I don't think just make a bunch and try to get lucky is a good plan, and I think this attitude is part of what led to the overwhelming # of games.
Stop making big (+1 years) games, please!!

Take two shots in that time instead of just one.

Yes, there's A LOT of luck. But also, hedge your bets. It's very hard out there. Don't add long and expensive to the risk factors at first.

The future of combating slop imo is guaranteeing you do not use the slop machine.

We can't assume there was no slop used, so we need to promise it was not used.

I will never use gen ai, as you can tell by all my programmer art in my game.
Not every game company is hopping onboard the AI hype train. Manor Lords publisher Hooded Horse bans gen AI art in its contracts.

I've had posts take off before, but one star trek post has gained me more followers than my other big posts combined lol.

By the way, I liked it better when worf wasn't security officer in S1 of TNG. I liked the Klingon NOT by default being security because Klingon.

Seemed to show he was more.

Looking at the Wikipedia page of letter frequency, and I love how unique Polish is among languages that use the Roman alphabet.

Most commonly used consonants:
T - EN
S - FR, ES, PT, HU
N - DE, IT, TR, SV, NL, FI, CS, CY
R - DA, IS
Z - PL

All these use Z 1.5% or less, then HU - 4.3% and PL - 5.6%

When looking for games similar to mine, I only found three that came out recently..... and I got them to team up for a bundle!

If anyone wants some single player TCG style card games (the old school kind, not rogue likes), here are all three of the most recent ones!
My game, Cardaire, and Isle of Swaps have teamed up to make a discounted pack of our single-player card games!

What TCG player doesn't love getting some 3-for-1 value?? Big thanks to @eternalskies.neocities.org for the idea

Time to jump in to maybe my first star trek controversial opinion:

Riker looks SO much better without the beard.

And I say that as someone who LOVES beards and has had one since I was 13.

I have options in my game for difficulty. I have options for what you get in a pack (give yourself 30 rares sure). I let people mod the game in any way. I let people skip the gameplay entirely. I let people skip the story entirely.

Play indie games from devs that remember the point of games is fun.
I know Sony’s solution isn’t perfect but we really need to start embracing the idea that people should be able to have fun however they want. Let people play on easy mode. Let people skip entire gameplay sections if they’re frustrating them or killing the joy for a game.

I had a post about star trek TNG take off, and it was like the nicest comment section of all time.

Almost like they all view other humans as human, even through a screen.

I wonder if that could have anything to do with the actual content of star trek....
January 7, 2026 at 7:11 AM
I was looking for an analogy and searched what games people find thought provoking and holy hell this is depressing.

Just people mentioning the same handful of AAA games that didn't completely punt on story. And disco Elysium which, fair choice

PLAY INDIE GAMES PEOPLE. Please just try things ever!

I'm watching Star Trek TNG, which I had never watched before. Or any Star Trek.

And wtf this show is amazing. It's a perfect background but also throws in some highly thoughtful and touching bangers that make me look up and watch.

Why was this ever compared to Star Wars? All they share is space.

After spending so many months making ridiculously complicated enemy behaviors, I'm playing some games and..... Wow these ai are dumb.

I'm playing GameCube fire emblem and the enemy behavior is so bad. Not even accounting for their own health, attacking for zero all the time. This is on hard too.

This is such a common refrain while thousands of indie games devs toil and do exactly what these people profess to want, if only they would take a look beyond what is shoved in front of their face.

Not trying to call this person out specifically but like, just look a little bit beneath the surface.

Hey we have this product that has dominated its market for 30+ years.

What if we rebranded it after this thing everyone hates?

I mean, it worked out so well for Meta and they don't look like complete morons at all!
They rebranded office as copilot

Does anyone want a VERY deep cut video game recommendation?

Napple Tale: Arsia in Daydream for the Dreamcast. It's a 2.5D platformer made almost entirely by women. It is very creative and has a beautiful soundtrack made by Yoko Kanno.

It came out in 2000 but wasn't fan translated until 2019.

I started bringing one of my collections to Poland that I haven't talked about much on here.

Here is part of my collection of graded games where I was going for the lowest grade possible (0.5 C). I have more to bring.

That Kirby game is close, but not quite the perfect low score.

My partner have an unspoken arrangement that if we're drinking, she picks the movie.

So what I'm saying is we are watching barbie fairytopia.

God I hate this bibble thing. But honestly not as much as I hate a man doing anything in a barbie movie.

"Make the game you'd like to play" is great advice as long as you like things that aren't thoroughly tread ground already.

If you're not making anything new, yeah you'll get burned out on it.

I'm making the game I want to play because nobody else is making it.
"Make the game you'd like to play" is a great way to get burned out on a genre you love

But "make the game that compels you" is how you unlock the REAL sicko shit
There’s a lot of bad game dev advice out there but “Make the games you’d like to play” is one I’ve come to disagree with more and more.

Sorry I only go to the movies to watch movies that are 3+ hours long because otherwise it just isn't worth the $/hour/ The director really should add a whole bunch of filler to make it longer so I'm really getting my money's worth.

This is insane, but yet a common take with video games.
January 4, 2026 at 11:42 AM
I like when Steam users rely on stupid $/hour calculations so they go like:

"This game was absolutely lifechanging, one of the best games I ever played. But it was only a 12 hour game and it cost $15, so I have to leave a negative review."

Funny how this only applies to games and no other activity
Negative steam reviews will be like

“It’s a great game in every way but it’s worth maybe $10 instead of its price tag of $25, so that’s why I’m giving it a thumbs down”

and they’ve played the game for 40 hours.
