Game events in the US are going to feel the pressure right now.

There's very few people ok with the idea of traveling there, even if it's not in their own dime.

If people like Mike are having second thoughts, imagine devs that are not from english speaking countries and/or are not white-passing 👀
Not at DICE this year, probably continuing to not be in the US more generally for the foreseeable. Ping me in the places you ping me for a substitute virtual hang.

You don’t understand, we gotta burn out senior experienced devs, so we can keep having the same 5 discourses on a loop. There is a very real risk that if we treat people with respect and manage them well that we might have to stop re-debating basic terminology and practices.

proudly thumping his chest about how this industry grinds talent into dust while being under the utter delusion that we're onboarding new talent

respectfully, it is this thinking that has brought to the industry to its current historical lowpoint
I say this with utmost respect, but Taylor is an absolute tool for saying this privately or publicly.
I can say on good authority that it takes 7 to 10 years to develop game development skills to “good enough” to produce commercial game content. 7-10 years plus the cost of a university education.

It's that time of the year in gamedev!!!

Yes. The time when we talk about crunch, yet again, because some out-of-touch exec had a bad take about it and everyone that has been in the trenches agrees they're wrong and newcomers need to not fall for it.

Crunch is a failure of management. Pass it on.

I've run businesses since 2003, a large chunk of that time in games. I've worked with AAA, publishers, platforms, service providers and indies. Huge success and epic failures.

No one knows what's going to work today, or in the future. Anyone claiming otherwise just hasn't been humbled ✨yet✨.

To any junior devs reading the discourse, don't let anyone tell you crunch is necessary. Don't fall for it. Long term crunching is dangerous for your physical & mental health, full stop. Great games are not made because of crunch, they are made in SPITE of crunch, and it is NOT sustainable. Period.

Leftists address this constantly. We advocate for universal health care and child care, guaranteed pensions, decommodified housing, and all kinds of other things that would directly address these issues. What we don't do is say "more white babies" which is what is really being asked here
