✨Thoughts on game dev, leadership & the pastries of Sweden✨

Hey! I'm Gen 👋
I'm the Studio Art Director at DICE and a gamedev veteran of over 20 years.

I'm passionate about game development & creative leadership and like to post thoughts and advice on those topics occasionally. I'm also a house goblin, common nerd and like to write about anything really ✨
Friends, I've tried, but FF12 is a very hard game to love 20 years later - even in remastered format.

The labyrinthine maps, the obscure "you can't pass here but we're not going to tell you why even though we told you to go west to find your stupid ship", the general friction... it's just too much.

I think there's some interesting type of poetry over receiving cold emails from a big art outsourcing firm that tried to recruit me a few years ago and gave off really weird vibes before ghosting me.

Alt: bugs bunny is making a funny face with his mouth open dancing caption letters read: "no"

I'd be totally ok with not getting migraines, tbh.

Became total besties with two girls at the supermarket over chili crisp and saved them from the entirely disappointing peanuts or soybeans in oil doppelgängers.

The Good Stuff or nothing.

I could never be a shitposter, but you'll only be able take my dry humour from my cold, dead hands.

Bring back the fall, halloween, christmas and so on special episodes. And by that, I mean bring back the 24 episodes per season format.

Imagine publicly declaring through a game review that your emotional development stopped around age 12.

I’ve worked for more than half of my career at Ubisoft. It’s tough seeing whats happening to the people still there. Both times I’ve left were never because I thought the studios and teams within lacked the necessary talent and passion - quite the opposite in fact.

Wishing for better days ahead.

I didn't think I'd be looking forward to fresh video game discourse as a welcome distraction.

Come on team, I believe in you!

During the summer of 2020 I was feeling miserable and useless. Like what I was doing didn't matter. I decided to help others in the way I knew how. I started mentoring, teaching, doing portfolio reviews, resumes reviews, mock interviews, and even just small pep talks with folks.

Your productive time is some short hours of fantastic productivity, followed by ok and then low. The more time you spend going into that low productivity leads to them other two getting smaller till your not productive at all. Working 4 hours can be more productive than 14 a day on a portfolio.
Artists, QRP with a practical art "hack" you use. Let's share some wit & knowhow.

I reached into the box of chocolate cookies on the couch to find it completely empty, and OK this evening is just not going to go my way is it.

Sometimes some people have really deeply unserious piss poor takes about how games should be managed, all in the name of righteousness and clout chasing.

Bless the bureaucrats who can’t imagine a world where people work better when they live and breathe outside of rigid little boxes.

I realized that I have a hard time right now responding positively to positive feedback sent my way. Sending apologies out into the cosmos.
