Still waiting for the people who call themselves anti-fascist, but also say that it was not just necessary but a moral imperative to continue supporting a genocide, to explain exactly what it is about fascism they don’t like
Marimar Martinez has the kind of courage that is so desperately needed in this country.

The thing about people like Hayes, and all pundits, really, is that there is great benefit for being proven right and no penalty for being proven wrong

I *really* think people on the left broadly need to start thinking seriously about believing the PR hype shoved on everyone by the class the left despises and that has constantly lied about everything for decades
I understand why people are exhausted by AI hype, and why those of us squarely in the corner of "human dignity uber alles" see AI doomerism as self-serving hype, but I *really* think people on the left broadly need to start thinking seriously about the possibiltiy of the hype being...true.

Communism: so self-evidently a failure that the biggest, richest capitalist empire has to use political force to get one of the poorest places in the western hemisphere to stop getting desperately needed medical care from its doctors
Capitalist progress!

It’s true, my wife and I always bond over the thing we are both really good at (getting high and making snotty comments about reality television)

Given that he used to be married to biathlete Nathalie Santer, I bet I can guess. Domracheva used to work for the KGB so maybe he won’t be so cavalier with his affections in the future

LOL I remember that, hilarious

Incidentally, the winningest male biathlete of all time (and, in fact, the winningest Winter Olympian of all time), Norway’s Ole Einar Bjørndalen, is married to the winningest female biathlete of all time, Belarus’ Darya Domracheva. I bet they either talk about the biathlon all the time or never

Number of nonwhite biathlon medalists since 1960: zero

It’s not so much that these are behaviors that would be surprising from people who both ski and do target-shooting, based on my admittedly limited experience of both, but it’s still adding an unexpectedly peppery quality to the otherwise bland fare usually on offer at the Winter Olympics.
The Saga Of The French Teammate-Defrauder Taught Me To Appreciate The Essence Of Biathlon | Defector
To the layperson, biathlon may be the strangest sport in the Winter Olympics. Most of the sports in the Games involve athletes testing the limits of the human body vis-á-vis gravity (e.g.: big air, sk...

Which is why this year’s Winter Olympics are so bonkers! One biathlon medal winner had a huge weepy meltdown about cheating on his girlfriend at the press conference, and another was recently convicted of identity theft and credit card fraud.

That said, , I do like biathlon just because I generally enjoy sports that are barely abstracted forms of professional violence (see also: fencing, modern pentathlon, boxing, wrestling, judo, etc.). In this house we respect competence in professional violence

I usually find the Winter Olympics intensely boring, consisting as they do as a sort of back-door way of making sure more white people win medals

It used to be that getting a product shipped to you meant buying it from the actual company and not a sociopathic middleman and sometimes delivery would take a whole week, requiring you to either plan ahead or buy it from a store. I refuse to be treated this way
