Even if you're not that into or involved with the culture, just by being in a hood you can lightly enjoy what's nice about it without committing with very little expectations from others. Honestly super similar to suiting, except barrier to entry is way lower + way more practical to get rowdy in lol

The nice thing about pup is it's very friendly to light engagement of it while also making it easy to dive deep if it happens to click. It can be fun to wear a mask that signals an attitude shift and that lends "anonymity". I enjoy my hood purely on that level vs being that into pup culture itself.

Plus you can use them for southwest at an OK rate still though not the best value. Amex OTOH doesn't really have any comparable easily accessible value from their points. If Amex partners work for your travel goals tho totally worth it. Also, harder to get Amex points so mayb be a better daily drvr?

Things that I think make reserve points still good... Hyatt is a great value. United premium/domestic biz booked on their portal can be done at 2x bonus in points, which beats united's own program. Their Edit hotel program sucks but they are also bookable at 2x + combinable with the $250 credit.

Honestly reserve isn't too bad still despite people not liking the refresh but the new Amex refresh is pretty good and a lot easier to take advantage of near you. My issue with Amex are the points are a little harder to get really good value out of unless you know you use their airline partners.

Yes it's a "brand" but if you've been, it's a serious venture thats become a key part in Seattle's broader queer scene and acts as a front porch for the fandom. It's also a 3rd place that furries can and do richly engage in outside of party/con contexts. To me, that is the definition of something

Perhaps it's up to those of us who've largely moved on beyond irony and who understand ourselves deeper to bring new ideas/spaces/events that add a new texture to the culture? One of the things I actually think is a good development in this direction is Slightly Furry, despite your criticism of it.

I feel I have a less pessimistic view of this kind of self expression (it's largely young people anxieties that all young ppl have being worked through using a furry lense) but agree that furry in general is ready to move on beyond irony, and the culture can support so much more richness.
