BUT (lukewarm take incoming...) I do also sort of feel like it is a mistake to try to ensure that children's literature be always teachable, and to shield them from problematic tropes. Children have a right to rip-roaring fantasy entertainment too. /

yeah, looking back that aspect does feel kind of awkward, the reliance on the easy fantasy trope of the noble animals vs the nasty animals. I lapped it up obliviously anyway lol
