A key difference bet today’s US military and the Wehrmacht of 1935-1945: soldiers in Nazi Germany swore an oath to the Leader and were required to follow orders blindly, while American servicemen and women swear an oath to the Constitution and have a duty to question and even disobey #illegalorders.

Reminding military personnel that they should not obey unlawful orders is NOT #sedition or #treason. Refusing to obey an unlawful or #illegalorder is actually a duty in the US military. I was taught that in Army basic training back in 1987. A page from my Soldier’s Handbook:

I didn’t always agree with #DickCheney (especially re torture) but he always stood by his principles & did what he believed would keep America safe, in Congress, DoD & White House. And that’s why—despite being a lifelong Republican—he denounced Trump and supported & voted for Kamala Harris in 2024.

Regardless of your position on the government shutdown, can we all agree that members of Congress should NOT get paid so long as the government is shutdown—along with other federal workers on furlough? They caused this mess and they are the ones getting paid without interruption?

I was not a fan of #CharlieKirk or many of the ideas he stood for, but unlike many, he was always willing to engage in civil debate. Political violence should NEVER be a response to disagreement in a democracy. Americans across the political spectrum should denounce his assassination, as do I.

Sen. John Kennedy wants the National Guard in New Orleans because there aren't enough cops. "He's not a commentator on Fox. He's a senator. What they could do is pass a bill that gives funding to local jurisdictions to hire more police."
