This is not a time to mince words, and it's not a time for inaction. Health care access should not be controversial, nor should it be a political pawn. #foreignaidfreeze
The entire Global health field is skewed towards the global north: so we need a big shift in power. And the way we do this is through organizing and building community.
Dwindling democracy levels globally directly correlates with the regression and shrinking the solution space for climate science, foreign aid, and much more.
And the first step, after inclusion & positionality of people present at the table, is imagination. As Paul Farmer mentioned “ideally, to identify impactful solutions, we must be able to imagine without constraints.”
So now we are at a crossroads and have the opportunity to reimagine global aid. But: Who gets to reimagine global health is as important as what the actual proposal is. There is a massive shift between the two, which says a lot about priorities and how we want to move forward.
What a privilege to listen to @madhupai.bsky.social speak at York university on the compounding crises resulting in deepening poverty, economic inequity, and the death of multiple multilateral instruments. Follow along as we share some of his insights. 🧵
