Bet you thought that parrots are found in the tropics. Most are, but these two live in the Antipodes, which are subantarctic islands south of New Zealand. Both are ground-dwellers and they nest in tunnels about 6 ft long.

My husband has a screen saver that has pictures of hundreds of the thousands (Him: 6,294, Me: somewhere north of 4,000)* of bird species we've seen. The photo changes about every 15 seconds.
When I am dying, I am hoping that my brain is doing just that - remembering the birds I've seen.

Fantastic, easy, healthy, inexpensive dish for winter:
1 lb lentils - use black or green (the red lentils get too mushy). Black is best. After rinsing and checking for stones. bring to boil, reduce to simmer, cook until tender but not mushy.
In a bowl - mix
3/4 canola oil
1/2 red wine vinegar
