Hey, that's our paper making the rounds again! Very cool research done with @plantbiomax.bsky.social and other colleagues at @uni-freiburg.de
🌱 RESEARCH 🌱

Mistletoe forms a strong attachment to the host already at the seedling stage by combining an interlocking mechanism with the hypocotyl, forming a bridge-like structure that strengthens the parasite–host connection - Teixeira-Costa et al.

Testing the students' metamaterial bridges was an engaging close to this year's Master's course in programmable bio-inspired metamaterials at IMTEK at the @uni-freiburg.de. Many thanks to my colleague Naeim Ghavidelnia for his brilliant ideas and efforts during the course!

And this is special because it has been in the pipeline for 5 years. We used #microCT scanning to show that, despite their minute vegetative body, #ParasiticPlants like #Pilostyles form an extensive colony within the host bark.

From start to finish, it was a pure joy to work with @l-teixeiracosta.bsky.social and the rest of the team! It's great to see what can be achieved when you combine expertise & research around a joint idea. I'm very proud of our next @livmats.bsky.social publication and my first paper as lead author.
What do you get when you combine #biomechanics, #mistletoe, and plant #development? An amazing collaboration with @plantbiomax.bsky.social and an exciting paper on @jxbotany.bsky.social!
