I think theres something special about fighting games with no input buffer. Theres a certain ambiguity it adds to interactions that would otherwise be governed entirely by framedata.
In games with no buffer theres always the chance of your timing being just that tiny bit better than your opponent.

The great thing about fighting games is seeing your progression in not just a single game but how it carries to other games. The fundamentals that carry you from game to game are a part of YOU not some hexadecimal code stored on a server.

if you're trying to find an aesthetic or theme for something you should pretty much always start by just slamming two concepts together and seeing what happens.
its impossible to iterate on one single point but its very easy to keep ideas coming about an interesting combination.

kinda annoyed that the cool new trend in 3d platformers is characters that can just jump 8 times in a row and clear the fucking grand canyon so all the levels are either stupidly massive or entirely skippable
