I've heard local officials make exactly this point by blaming drunkenness after a drunk driver killed a pedestrian where there had been calls for safer infrastructure.

It serves as CYA for culpable decision makers who control our infrastructure.

Although, parents in pickup lines are culpable too.

Why do parents tolerate terrible school car pickup lines? Because we have made walking anywhere dangerous to placate drivers.

A sad reality that hit my own community recently:

Why Parents Tolerate Terrible School Car Pickup Lines
A tragedy strikes the my own community. We failed this boy and his family by placating drivers over everything else.

Did salary expectations for college grads double in just 3 years? Everyone was dunking on Gen Z but I was dubious. Turns out, it was likely some change in the question. Survey design 101… www.collegetowns.org/p/china-will...

FIRE has publicly decried the punishments and sent letters to university leaders.

It simply isn't true that they have ignored the issue.

If we want more kids to walk to school, we need to make our places more walkable. Starts with one intersection at a time like this one.
