Research shows that biking is very, very healthy for people 65+.

Findings after reviewing 28 prior studies:

"Cycling in later life links to improved mobility [and] balance."

"Older cyclists often report psychosocial health, life satisfaction, and well-being improvements."

Parking enforcement never comes (waited 20 min) and is ineffective. You know what is very effective? Using my new megaphone to tell everyone in the apartment building that the silver Toyota Camry CHN3064 is illegally parked in the bike lane and WILL BE TOWED. Tada. Magically it does have a driver.

Now, 4 years later, bike and scooter trips on 30th Street have hit another record high. Foot traffic and business activity is also booming. www.kpbs.org/news/quality...

Cannot emphasize enough how these humble little lanes have transformed my relationship to the neighborhood for the better. I explore the neighborhood so much more, I visit businesses more often because it’s that much easier to get there quickly, I commute by bike more often because it feels safer.

Here it is, your #BlueSky #Bike Content of the Day for Friday, 1/30/26. Remember all the zealots who claimed the 30th St bike lane would shutter businesses? Guess what, it’s as vibrant as ever and getting better all the time.

Confirming foot traffic. I'm in the vicinity of 30th/University at some point most weekends, and sidewalks are always full. There are more people walking than driving on a Saturday afternoon.

University Ave should be bike/bus only from Utah St to Iowa St IMO.

Children shouldn't have to be driven to parks and parks shouldn't be filled with cars because that takes away from green space. Even without parking fees, arriving in Balboa Park in a car is a choice and the most expensive one. There are better and cheaper options. Cars are bad for kids' health.
Opinion: Why Balboa Park parking fees are bad for local kids’ health
Safe parks and green spaces can help both physical and mental health.

So has anyone written a good urbanist take on "protests where people stand next to a busy road or intersection" vs "protests where people occupy a large plaza"?

It seems to say something about different kinds of places

Also, a reminder that this is an undercount, because there are often cars blocking the counter.

Boggles the mind.

*the redesign reduces the total parking! Costing at least $4M, this design hasn’t even been installed for a year, hasn’t been evaluated, and there is no justification for removing it. Doing so will reduce the number of people biking, make the road more dangerous, and it’s just incredibly petty.
