Obviously I talk a lot about bike/ped safety.

But something that is really crazy is how much less safe you *in a car* since 2010.

In spite of all the additional safety technology, vehicle occupants are less safe today than they were 15 years ago.
I would like this 100 times if I could.

I love baking pies as a hobby.

But given the amount of work that goes into just one, it's amazing that you can buy one for $40.

I think Pecan Pie is one of those things that is divisive now because it’s just a blob of sugar with nuts on it but to someone 150 years ago who ate shoes it was probably like having 12 orgasms at once

My wife (and frequent editor) is suggesting I strike the word "alacrity" from a letter as being too much of a GRE word. I believe it captures what I want, and will be understood by most readers.

Who is right?

Woke: The 15 mph city
Rush hour traffic in Utrecht.

Sound on 🔊 if you want to experience that rush hour IS possible without the constant, deafening noise of cars overpowering people talking.

Lol, my initial read of this was that people are spending too much time at work texting, and that's killing the economy.

Which sounds more plausible, honestly.

"The YIMBYs have entered the building!"
Learning that Annemarie Gray (no relation) of Open New York, NYC's YIMBY group, has been appointed to Mayor-elect Mamdani's housing transition team. This is FANTASTIC news!

Two-way stops on residential streets are a total menace.

I'm out walking the baby to sleep and just saw a neighbor (I recognize her car) run over a jogger and then proceed to blame him for being in the crosswalk.

Is it really too much to ask that @rideact.bsky.social not run their buses ahead of schedule?

It might sound good, but it means that if you're on time, you miss your bus!

It's almost as if people are *somehow* already aware of their speed, and are affirmatively choosing to exceed the limit.

Huge victory for Zohran Mamdani in the Oval Office. He stuck to his guns, spoke about affordability, proudly declared himself a Democratic Socialist, condemned genocide in Gaza, did not back down from calling Trump a “fascist,” and still got Trump to praise him, undermining months of GOP attacks.

The Bay Area is at risk of massive transit service cuts if we don't pass a 2026 regional funding measure.

It cannot be overstated how disastrous cuts would be for our entire region.

Please read this thread for actions you can take to save Bay Area public transit. And share to spread the word! 🧵⬇️

This is a great example of the "curb cut effect," by which making the world more accessible for disabled people improves it for able bodied people.

If BART had put readers on both sides of the faregates, it would have been much easier for bicycle users, who walk their bikes on the right, to tap on.
