In addition, the main carriageway of the stately Maliebaan will become a car-free shared space for pedestrians and cyclists. Car traffic will be moved to the service roads along the buildings, which will be narrowed to reduce traffic speed.

The design of the new Maliebaan intersection in Utrecht, which connects two bicycle streets on the main cycle route from the Central Station to the University area, is slowly taking shape.

Side-by-side tandems are a game changer for people who, for whatever reason, can no longer cycle independently.

Thanks to the bike and a buddy (often a volunteer) these people can get moving again.

Besides a lot of cycling happiness, this also benefits physical and mental health!

Utrecht has presented the principles for Rijnenburg, a new neighborhood which will rise southwest of the city.

Public transport, cycling, and walking will be prioritized in the neighborhood, with over 20,000 homes for 50,000 residents.

Eindhoven, the fifth-largest city in the Netherlands, is redesigning its station area. Among other things, an underground bike parking facility for 5,400 bicycles will be built.

Until the new facility is completed, cyclists can use the temporary facility, which has space for 3,800 bicycles.

Bicycle drums are small, lockable bicycle parking facilities often placed on public roads in places where residents don't have their own space for their bikes. Residents can then subscribe to a parking space in the drum.

Until a few years ago, this piece of public space served three motorists.

Now there are three bicycle drums, and the same piece of public space serves four times as many cyclists.

The math is simple!

In Utrecht, the modal share of cycling for travel within the city is 46% on weekdays. Together with walking, the modal share for active transport is almost 80%, compared to only 17% for cars.

Today, the third Thursday of September, is known to be the busiest cycling day of the year in the city.

Today marks exactly 140 years since the first cycle path in the Netherlands was constructed on the Maliebaan in Utrecht.

At the time, only those who had signed the request for its construction were allowed to use it. It wasn't until two years later that everyone was allowed to cycle on it.

No, we don't have mountains in the Netherlands.

But the Dutch National Weather Service issued code yellow for today and tomorrow because of heavy wind gusts.

And believe me, wind is worse than mountains...
