Anyways, I’m sorry you felt like you had to brace for an explosion! We’re all just trying to get from point a to point b.

I love riding my bike, and talk about cycling a lot, but I also think expecting every single person to want to choose the same method of transportation is absurd. We shouldn’t force people to bike any more than we should force people to drive or force people to take the bus. Options = good!

I really hope they start taking internalized misogyny seriously. This isn't just women being dimissed by male physicians. It's also women healthcare workers refusing to take other women seriously.

I wish we all had better options to choose from! The bus and private vehicles all being stuck in the same congestion sucks for everyone.

Do it! Any of the routes that go to rural parts of HRM would be neat for views and fall colours. The 415 goes to York Redoubt.

There are some great trails to get comfortable on too before testing out routes with mixed traffic.

There's a thread on Facebook in Ask NS, complaining about trucks on Lower Water St (fair). All of the comments are saying how there's no other routes! As if the entire city didn't decide that Morris St was the only possible route 2 months ago 😂🫠

Can we have the bike lane now?

Going to the dentist is stressful enough already. No need to add traffic congestion to that stress if he doesn’t have to

Apparently, Andy Fillmore just proclaimed himself as the "best bike lane advocate in Halifax," and I'm dyyyyyiiiiinnng. What it must be like to love in this man's inflated reality of overconfidence.

I did not make the district 8 town hall meeting tn. But for folks there, I must know more 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah, the only traffic delay I ran into on the multiuse trail was two toddlers who wanted me to stop and look at a really cool rock they found.

A core segment of @hfxgov.bsky.social's supposed 'all ages and abilities' & 'traffic calmed' bicycle network on a residential street felt neither comfortable nor connected today. A complete failure! Plus I don't think these were all residents 👀 #ZeroVisionHFX #CarBrain #BikeHFX
A screenshot from the Halifax (Kjipuktuk) Regional Municipality's website describing the characteristics of local street bikeways as part of the All Ages and Abilities bicycle network. It reads: Local Street Bikeways are bicycle routes on local (often residential) streets. If necessary, the street is modified in a way that lowers vehicle speeds and volumes. This allows people cycling to share the road comfortably with vehicles without the need for designated bicycle lanes. The impact on parking on streets with Local Street Bikeways is often minimal.
Local Street Bikeways have the following features:
Signs to show that the street is a Local Street Bikeway
Pavement markings to remind all road users to expect people bicycling and assist with their placement in the lanes
Traffic diversion measures, where necessary, to discourage through trips or “short-cutting” by motor vehicles
Traffic calming measures, where necessary, to reduce the speed of motor vehicles
Intersection improvements to create safe, convenient bicycle crossings of major and minor streets
Other landscaping, bicycle parking, and pedestrian improvements where appropriate
POV from a bicycle of the Vernon Street Local Street Bikeway with a long line of cars ahead. There is a green and white sign on the road to denote this as a Local Street Bikeway, i.e., a traffic calmed residential street to support comfortable cycling for people of all ages and abilities but clearly drivers did not get the memo.

Reliability and frequency is more important than anything else. If people don't need to worry about when the bus will come, or if the bus will come, then they will use it. Especially if it gets them to their destination on time

They won't use it if it makes them late b/c the only bus never came

e-bikes (with bike lanes) are one of those things that you really do have to try to understand how the city both shrinks and opens up. You get on one and think "if only more people knew about this!"

“I live my life without a transit schedule, and I like it.”

That’s a great, succinct statement about the benefits of frequent service.

None of this surprises me, but this is such important work. Grateful to the IWK and everyone who put their time and energy into the survey
