I get 5 councillors e-newsletters in my inbox. I didn’t have to email their coordinators for that, just click a link. I didn’t even realize Virginia Hinch had one since she had so little online presence.

People do not want to admit how dangerous driving is because it undermines their entire reality. So they pretend speed limits are about money.

And when we try to make changes, neighbors organize with rhetoric like this. Kemp Mill Civic Association is riling up fear of having to pay tickets (avoidable by not speeding) while people are killed on these roads. It’s disgusting.

Today, @nationalobserver.com is launching a tool to search municipal meeting transcripts across Canada. The tool has already helped us unearth a climate denial network targeting towns and cities, report on AI data centers, measure our impact and more.

The little things make a difference. #BikeHFX folks sharing their routes, advice for dealing with tricky intersections, bike parking spots, it all makes cycling in HRM a safer, more accessible option.

I appreciate both of you for doing this!

It was. But if they have a better understanding now, and this is setting up a campaign for the next provincial election, then I’m cautiously optimistic.

So true. The rising cost of living is most likely contributing to deferred upkeep for a lot of people.
terriclarke.bsky.social
So true. That would have stuck with me too. Your examples track with what I see as well. Shiny new thing they can cut the ribbon on plays better with voters than basic maintenance on the old thing I suppose.

Does Virginia Hinch do an e-newsletter for her district? Is it listed there?
terriclarke.bsky.social
They have a lot of room for improvement when it comes to upkeep and maintenance. I live near a public housing community and the condition some of those units are in is so unacceptable.

Andy Fillmore and District 8 Coun. Virginia Hinch are hosting a town hall at the Needham Community Centre at 6pm tonight.

Fillmore has hosted a few town halls: in Lower Sackville, Lucasville, and one in Cole Harbour, which he shut down early. We will see what people have to say at tonight's event.

I’m impressed with Chender here for plainly stating that we need more housing in general, not just more public housing. And she’s right we need investment in Halifax Water and the power grid so that we can build in the right places, instead of just enabling more greenfield development.

The no straight except bicycles sign on Allan at Oxford might be up there in the uselessness ranks. I’d say on average during am traffic 8 out of 10 drivers ignore the signs and go straight.

You can provide feedback to NS health here. Note: NS health still gives 1 free box of 5 rapid tests to people who request them. Jealous of that. This AI situation not so much. research-study.nshealth.ca/surveys/?s=3... #NSPoli

“since any councillor who's good at their job will be voraciously consuming every piece of information that people write or record about them, that means one or two of them will eventually also hear this.

And if you are one of those two people, hi, hello, welcome to a show for you, Councillor.”

Good point! And good on Airdrie! I had no idea they had a city wide 30km/h limit. That’s something to celebrate.

This is not to excuse the driver, but the reason why we are even watching this video and why it’s not a fatality is because Airdrie has a city wide 30km/h speed limit.

30km/h has an significantly lower fatality risk in driver vs walker collisions.

Police in Airdrie, Alberta (just north of Calgary) say this driver hit a 17-year-old girl in a marked crosswalk, got out of the vehicle, and appeared to get upset at the teenager before driving away.

They released this video and are now trying to identify the driver.
