Well, CSS Day is live now ( https://cssday.nl ) and I've got a bunch of related things to do but unfortunately I'm ill and can hardly concentrate.

So the going will be very slow this time.

Is there a way to detect if the scrollbar gutter is present or absent? There is no media/container query, I believe, and I thought those newfangled svw units would help, but they don''t.

There's no media/container query to detect whether a scrollbar gutter is present, is there? I could really use one now.

Oh nice! Geert Wilders loses 7 of his 25 henchmen in parliament, who split off and created their own fraction.

So instead of Americans firing weapons at Europeans ...

... we get some same-old-same-old tariff shit ...

... and now the EU erects some tariffs of its own that hurt the white trash in the fly-over states, and then the tariffs disappear ...

... which tells me we won this round ...

... so far.

What's good English for "paying on invoice"?

In other words receiving an invoice and going through your company's regular administration in order to get it paid with a bank transfer - instead of paying immediately via Stripe or something.

The winning suggestion: rename Greenland to Epstein Island and all problems are solved.
Wat een eer!

Mijn stuk voor De Speld is nu ook vertaald en geplaatst door onze Duitse en Spaanse collega’s van Der Postillon en El Mundo Today, en het heeft 9Gag gehaald!

The Great Script Writer in the sky is clearly having fun with my professional life. The latest development would have been rejected by any human editor as too coincidental/not believable.

Today I found my grandfather’s passport from 1943, containing evidence he traveled to Germany four times in 1944, and he seems to have visited Potsdam Babelsberg, the centre of German movie production.

Interesting linguistic experience:

I called a help desk, and was helped very professionally, but the person spoke a weirdly accented Dutch that I couldn't pin down, and I had trouble understanding her.

The last few days I spent in historical studies, for the first time in many many years.

And to my utter surprise I am now ready to argue that chapter 438 of the Thidrekssaga was composed in Aachen in the first quarter of the 9th century.
