The project was inspired by reading about the perspectives of many community members from marginalised backgrounds on Twitter (rip) during the pandemic. I‘m very thankful to all who tweeted on the lack of diversity in archaeology and its outreach, and promise to keep on learning!

It also feels like a representation of me as someone struggling finding my place in the field as an independent researcher outside of traditional academic pathways. I am deeply grateful to my co-editors Jo Zalea Matias and @archaeologiskop.bsky.social for their long-standing support.

We need to utterly transform how we protect our heritage: more funding for museums, more education and disrupting our equation of heritage with monetary value. This isn't a one off. From our fiekds to our museum cases, antiquities are seen as objects for personal acquisition and monetary gain.
