It’s positively warming up here to a balmy -12 F. If you’re off work today like me, it’s a good day to draw some things on cardboard or throw a snowball!

Minnesotans want safety. They want freedom. They want what’s best for our kids.

Masked agents snatching preschoolers off the street and sending them to Texas detention centers serves none of those purposes.

This campaign of retribution has got to stop.

still feels like folks outside of MN are kind of not getting it: our state has been under attack for over a month, and the resistance is being organized by literally your regular old neighbors and coworkers and friends.

Giving a young kid a smartphone may be a big mistake. Research conducted by scientists from UC Berkeley and Columbia found that children 12 years old and younger who received one of these devices were at a higher risk of depression, obesity, and sleep deprivation.

Folks, I’ve done a ton of reading on the topic of friendmaking the last few years because of the courses I teach, and asking people questions is always one of the easiest ways to get people to open up, to be more comfortable, and to improve relationships.

Right now, when things are topsy turvy, it may seem that exploring your purpose is selfish, or counterproductive. But it's one of the best things we can do for our communities - and for ourselves.

I start teaching my Social Media and Mental Health course in just over a week for the fall semester. I have 80 students enrolled, and counting.

I’m also teaching a new course I’ve designed - Creating a Meaningful Life - for undergrads. The enrollment cap was at 50 - I have 40 on the wait list! 🥰

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

Social media has not only revoked our permission to be bored, but has also given far too many people the affirmation that they don’t need to keep things to themselves.

I’m no prude but jeez, folks.

I've taught about social media/mental health for years, and naturally that often branches into tech/gaming. Cozy gaming is one of my favorite recentish developments as it demonstrates that mindfulness/meditation can be practiced in many ways - and that gaming is not empirically "bad" for anyone.
How 'cozy gaming' is taking mindfulness mainstream
Meditative hits like 'Stardew Valley' and 'Animal Crossing' are helping a generation of gamers foster helpful habits.

I’m really leaning in to “quiet practices” - things that don’t require screens and force me to slow down a bit. Today over lunch, I had an espresso and sent a few hand-written notes to friends. And k even enclosed some fun stickers for them! I absolutely love sending mail.
