İZBAN is currently operated as a 50/50 joint venture between TCDD and İzmir Metropolitan Municipality (İBB).
But the Mayor of İzmir recently said they want TCDD to take over the whole system.

For example, on TCDD trains, you only need to show your ID during ticket control. You don't need your ticket. Although many people praise this as a convenience, but they're too stupid and naive to understand what it actually means.

In Turkey, it is mandatory to enter your national identity number when purchasing any bus, plane, or train ticket. Your journey is recorded on your identity card, and law enforcement agencies can easily have all this infos in their systems.

The Menemen-Aliağa section (25 km) in the north of the Izmir is the fastest section in all of the non-HSR network in Turkey, used only by commuter trains, where they can run at 140 km/h without any interruption…
