Because PC case designers apparently never own cats, this build had been turned off multiple times by the cats sitting on the power button. NO MORE! Spent more on this than I should have, but dangit if it won't do the job!

New blog post!

@vcfederation.bsky.social launched its first Vintage Computer Festival in Canada this year with VCF Montreal last month.

A friend and I went and I wrote up some impressions. It's off to a solid start and I hope it gets to grow!

I guess I shouldn't have waffled in the last month when I was thinking about buying a Steam Deck. I'm guessing whenever they come back in stock, they'll cost a lot more because of this AI driven price spike in RAM and storage.

Pop this damn bubble already.

I don't know why, but my blog is getting a ton of hits on the home page today and I've had more email signups in the last 24 hours than the blog has ever had. Some weird addresses too. And Google's still not indexing it.

I hope this isn't some kind of exploit in Ghost. 😬

Discord's existing application security and policies are already a joke, as I detailed here.

Now they want me (a user of the service since 2016) to provide facial or document verification that I'm an adult, processed by a company that will inevitably be hacked or will sell the data? Umm, no?

I am seen some shall we say, dense Chinese company names in my day, but this one that was on an inexpensive Amazon wheeled shelf I bought to put under my new standing desk might take the cake.

Saw this at Zak's in Carleton Place this morning. Took me a sec. I wonder how many people didn't catch this before approving it. 🤣

New blog post!

I've been a Netflix user since the day it launched in Canada, over 15 years ago. I cancelled today.

I wrote about why and how they've pushed me to Plex, something I never would have done until recently. I don't feel bad about it.

Netflix, it's not me, it's you
I've been an uninterrupted user of Netflix since it launched in Canada. After more than 15 years, I'm done. This is my goodbye letter.

Happened literally the day after I did the same: geekbravado.com/yves-guillem...

He may have founded the company, but he clearly doesn't have what it takes to lead it going forward.

New blog post!

Ubisoft's on the ropes and Yves Guillemot is still in charge, despite leading it to this mess. He treats it like a family business, even with 17,000 employees and publicly traded shares. It's time for him to step down so it can hopefully survive.

Yves Guillemot's pride and ego will be the death of Ubisoft
The once might Ubisoft is on fire, with financial performance and confidence at rock bottom. So why is the guy who led it there still in charge?

One of the best known demoscene productions, Future Crew's Second Reality made state-of-the-art PCs of the days sweat.

Now this lad lad has it running like butter in JavaScript in a browser.

Incredible work! Highly recommend giving this a watch.

@neutronized.bsky.social Hey there! Just picked up Dino Quake on sale, but when I try to start the game, this is what I get.

On a 9800X3D with a 9070 XT, Windows 11. Ever seen this before? It's not one I've previously come across. Oddly, I played the demo a while ago and I think it worked fine.

In the office of what'll be my new full-time gig after my contract today to get up to speed on some stuff and I kid you not: There's an event later today where anyone in the building can go meet the new batch of St. John's Ambulance therapy dogs! Suddenly, the awful traffic seems well worth it! 🐕❤️

Man, EA needs to get a new Javelin update out. There is absolutely a LOT of cheating happening in Redsec right now.

Fixing the UI bugs that have literally been there since day one would be nice too. 🙄

Signing a contract with ICE in this environment is profoundly shameful, @hootsuite.com.

You know your social media monitoring tools will be used to attempt to punish ICE's targets and citizen protestors.

Yves Guillemot needs to go. He's had years and multiple chances to turn Ubisoft's fortunes around and has stumbled it constantly. He's not equipped to lead the company into the industry going forward. But I think he'd rather burn all his legacy and employees than admit failure.

Working with the @spacequesthistorian.com and his band @error47.bsky.social for the boxes for the kickstarter project "Soup's On: music from The 7th Guest & The 11th Hour on vinyl". I am honored to be asked to do the project. It will hold 5 vinyl's 2 CD and 1 tape. I'm prototyping now. So excited.
