Mine was one of the Commander Keen shareware episodes. Then I had the chance to play Wolfenstein 3D on a demo computer at a short-lived Canadian chain store called A-Plus Software. They let me play as long as I want because I was apparently selling copies of the game. 🙂

One of the best known demoscene productions, Future Crew's Second Reality made state-of-the-art PCs of the days sweat.

Now this lad lad has it running like butter in JavaScript in a browser.

Incredible work! Highly recommend giving this a watch.

I was scanning my new acquisitions from @vcfederation.bsky.social Montreal this morning and Beanie decided to step on the scanner bed while it was doing the preview.

Just in case you needed a laugh today. 🤣

You can see him at pets.pxa.ca. 🐈

Who remembers this? I spent a ton of time on this back in the day. Literally learned how to play Cribbage on this service.

It deserved better than to get quietly shut down like it did. :(

How friggin' cool is this?! Randall's managed to turn his amazing passion project into a commission for a well known YouTuber!

Congrats man, looks amazing!
Working with the @spacequesthistorian.com and his band @error47.bsky.social for the boxes for the kickstarter project "Soup's On: music from The 7th Guest & The 11th Hour on vinyl". I am honored to be asked to do the project. It will hold 5 vinyl's 2 CD and 1 tape. I'm prototyping now. So excited.

We have a super cool community member named @sirrandall.yeold.press who makes absolutely S-tier, bespoke, custom collectors edition boxes of classic titles. He just did a great interview with @ronscompvids.bsky.social. Great watch if you're into this stuff!

@oldskool.org posted this cool DOS quiz on his YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3mG...

Not for those lacking some hardcore DOS nerd skills.

Let me know how you scored! I sadly did umm...like 3 out of 10. 😶
How well do you know your early DOS game trivia?

Pour one out for an industry pioneer and absolute legend. Rebecca was one of the GOATs and contributed to some of the most deifnitive PC games of the 80s and 90s.

GIMME! This looks so awesome! It's the latest project from the creator of the amazing PicoGUS device. Can't wait for it!
Are you ready for #PicoIDE? It seems to be telling me it's ready. Coming soon: ATAPI optical disc emulation and IDE hard drive emulation. picoide.com

I never learned of this site until now, but even putting the crazy catalog of music aside, this UI is ART! I love it!
Once again I am endorsing chiptune.app as my favourite music streaming service (it's free.)

The fight is over and the lizard drags away your opponent.

Real stuff not emulation: CRT scanlines, same gaming conditions as back then.

Well hi everyone! It's @pxa.ca, your humble BigBoxDB Bluesky posting dude. You may have noticed the feed's been pretty quiet for the last while and I haven't been too active on the Discord either.

I hate long threads so don't worry, this won't be one either.

A long-lost BBC documentary on the 1984 Christmas release season has been posted on their archive YouTube channel.

This shows the real-time downfall of Imagine Software and the rise of Ocean. Fascinating watch!

Yet another reason why @gog.com is the GOAT! They've added an almost Steam Workshop-like system to one-click install mods for a variety of classic titles. All vetted and tested by their team and in partnership with the mod authors.

This is brilliant! Well done!
