#Academia idealizes thinking while rewarding sycophancy

#American liberals are idiotic hypocrites: there, I said it! You just want want to bitch and moan. Want to help someone? Next time a guy on the street asks for a dollar, GIVE IT TO HIM! Better yet, take him/her to lunch and find out they're not so different from your privileged white ass.

How much better a world we'd live in if we just started listening: like the patrons of a restaurant in Valencia who callously ignored a woman asking for change. After giving her what was in my pocket, disgusted, I gave her another euro (such a pittance). She said it was for milk for her children...

Bravo, for having a brain and using it! Yes, we would all be illiterate but for the repetition and feedback learning that allows us to write. #AI is just another form of communication!

#ICE agents "just following orders" for a paycheck should be sure to set aside 50-100% of take-home salary for a defense attorney, as international criminal law has never accepted that as a valid excuse for #HumanRights violations.

You want me to be really provocative? Your religion is a choice. My genetics are not.

Who the fuck cares, are we not all human beings? Here's an idea: why don't you stop border disputes by realizing that Jews have thrived throughout the world and have contributed greatly to the cultures of all countries, whether they claimed it as theirs or not.

☪️ 57 Muslim countries

✡️ 1 Jewish country

Remind me, who’s colonizing who again?

This is the fucked up world we live in: Just off camera are two individuals seeking charity...OUTSIDE A CHURCH! I stood for several minutes, watching churchgoers walk by, including two who blessed themselves right in front of the woman they ignored. Surely you are not Christians. You are wicked.

I really dislike having to use toilet paper again after almost 6 months in Asia where nearly every toilet (even in a shed) has a sprayer.

I imagine there are those neo-Luddites who decry #AI #writing while unabashedly using Grammarly to write their criticisms.

On #American #IndependenceDay, watching a Brit talk about the "Boston Massacre," propaganda taught ambiguously as fact to every #US school child as raison d'etre for the mess of lies they still believe centuries later.

80%+ of #American #lawyers are absolute #evil scum who should be stripped of citizenship as traitors to the #US constitution and sent to internment camps (the kind you don't come back from). This isn't racist or xenophobic or genocidal, it's #justice.

Perhaps neither side realizes that every time a Democrat bitches about Trump, a conservative evangelical gets their wings. Ditto when Dems are in power, but heaven and hell are a lot blurrier.

I used the term Veblen good in a post yesterday and on reflection realized that I may be thinking of something different. I know a Veblen good's demand increases as price increases. Luxury good. But then why does Hermes have keychains by the register and Apple sells low-cost models of its products?
June 2, 2025 at 12:19 AM
I was just thinking about how far Apple has strayed from Steve Jobs vision who I think did care about user functionality and the end product quality. And he's definitely dead...

Oh right, now I get it: instead of providing for everyone, selfish greed and capitalism create goods for those who can afford them, perpetuating its own engine. Even in Nepal, which elects members of the "Communist" party.
Since becoming aware of my desire to climb Maslow's pyramid, I've perceived its effects in SF, Thailand, and now Nepal. It seems challenging to self-actualize (let alone "transcend") when life (of many I've met, including me at times) seems dependent on the next dollar, baht, or rupee.

Which is it?
A) A bunch of random **** happens and we try to make sense of it
B) We actualize the patterns that define our #life
C) Both
D) Neither
E) Other:

As a white guy living in Asia for going on 6 months, I'm beginning to see what being singled out by race means. Not necessarily "bad" but walking through the streets of Nepal, for example, does attract attention, whether posing with a youth football team or acknowledging frequent requests for money.

@governor.ca.gov if you kick people out of their homes to renovate yours (plural) by illegally invoking the #EllisAct no one in #SF will have a home but you and @speakerpelosioffic.bsky.social

What are you personally doing to "fix" the "homeless issue" @governor.ca.gov bc I'll swear under oath one of your staffers told me it was giving a business card to a person on the street in the #TL

Fact: Worries Become Unrecognizable I worry. It’s a feeling I know well. Yet, a clear fact from my own life experience keeps coming to mind: worries don’t last in the way they feel they will. Over …
