Though not a constant member, he appeared on every studio album by both Mott The Hoople and Bad Company. He founded Bad Company along with Simon Kirke and Paul Rodgers of Free and Boz Burrell of King Crimson in 1973.

Clem Burke, the drummer for 1970s new wave band Blondie, has died aged 70 following a "private battle with cancer", the band's spokesperson has confirmed to the BBC.

This day in Rock history: Mike Starr, original bassist for Alice In Chains, was born in Honolulu in 1966. He was convicted of felony drug possession in 2003 and was featured in Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew on VH1 in 2010 and eventually overdosed at 44 on 3/8/2011.

This day in Rock history: Guitarist Gary Moore was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1952. Prior to going solo, which produced the Rock hit "Still Got The Blues (For You)" in 1990, he was with Thin Lizzy between 1974-79.

Moore died of a heart attack at 58 on 2/6/2011.

This day in Blues history: Legendary blues guitarist Muddy Waters was born in Issaquena County, MS in 1915. From 1977 to 1981 blues musician Johnny Winter, who idolized Waters growing up, produced four of his albums, three of which won Grammys.

Waters died in his sleep at 70 on 4/30/1983.
