Inui Hajime didn’t sound all that bad.

“I think I can scrounge up enough appetite to make you regret that.”

Kokonoi laughed. “Really?”

“And at the end of the night,” Inui stares up into the sun in a daze, “I can give you a paper ring.”

Kokonoi smiled. “I’d like that.”

“This is a walking date.” Inui huffed and turned away. “We can’t all afford to go to fancy Michelin star restaurants.”

Kokonoi hummed, thinking about it for a moment. “Is that the kind of place you want to go to? I think I can’t scrounge up enough to do that.”

Kokonoi quirked his eyebrows. “We haven’t even gone on a first date.”

“What is this then?” Inui dramatically gasps. “I bought you Dorayaki!”

“From a street vendor.”

“Oh? We’ve moved from fiance to husband, have we?” Kokonoi grinned and wiggled his brows.

“I’d rather not drop into boyfriend territory.” Inui frowned. “We’ve come too far for that.”

“And you didn’t decide to break the ice so you could call off the wedding, right?” Inui didn’t appreciate the separation between them, leaning into Kokonoi’s space. “That’s not very responsible of my future husband to do.”

His arm unwound from Inui’s back, creating space for the two of them to properly look at each other. “I just thought maybe I’ll tell you clearly now that we’ve gotten to know each other.”

Kokonoi nodded. “I want to take you on a proper date.”

“What? I thought we were already fiances.” Inupi chuckled. “You proposed to me at the coffee shop, remember?”

“I did.” Being caught off guard, Kokonoi pulled away slightly.

“Hey, Inupi.”

Inui tilted his chin up at Kokonoi, unbothered to move away from his perch on Kokonoi’s shoulder. “Yeah?”

“I like you.”

“Do you?” Inui’s lips curved upward, his eyes tender.

Kokonoi’s heart stuttered as he snuck a glance at Inui, his nose pink from the cool winter breeze.

For now, they were friends. Still Kokonoi felt an undeniable pull towards him. A whisper in the back of his head telling him to lean in for a kiss. That would be too soon.

The two sat together in the park, Inui’s cheeks stuffed with dorayaki. Kokonoi inhaled, pressing his own weight against Inui’s. The other boy was warm, his hair tickling Kokonoi’s cheek.

Being together… It felt like it was meant to be when Inui leaned his head onto Kokonoi’s shoulder.

Weeks passed by, the two having exchanged numbers, greetings, time, and space in each other's lives.

Inui hadn’t mentioned Kokonoi’s emboldened statement nor had Kokonoi brought up his feelings that had only grown the longer they were together.

The blond man surprisngly didn’t laugh at him. Kokonoi watched as Inui shifted his weight from foot to foot, nibbling his lip, stare elsewhere. “That’s a bold statement. I kind of like my name.”
rainbowcaffeine.bsky.social
“Hah?” Inui’s brows narrowed, his lips quirking in an ugly scowl.

“I’m going to make you my fiance!” Kokonoi proclaimed.

“What!?” Inui took a step back, bumping his elbow against the counter, spilling bits of coffee.

As the blond turned to leave, his gaze shifted, locking eyes with Kokonoi.

“You - What’s your name?”

“My name?” The blond tilted his head dumbly. “It’s Inui.”

“No, no it’s not!” Kokonoi blurted out. “It’s gonna be Kokonoi!”

Kokonoi swallowed.

He watched the man bid farewell to the barista that handed him a steaming warm cup.

A soft voice spoke to Kokonoi, asking a simple question from the opposite side of the counter. Something about coffee or tea but Kokonoi couldn’t take his eyes off the blond.

Hunched over the counter, talking adamantly to the barista, stood a man with long blond hair tucked in the collar of his leather jacket.

The man's teeth gleamed as he widely smiled, his expression joyful as the corners of his eyelids crinkled. He was gorgeous, heart stopping.

Proposing on sight wasn’t exactly on Kokonoi’s bingo card.

Here he is anyway, stalled in the middle of the entrance for the coffee shop he’s been to time and time again. Never had he laid eyes on someone so beautiful before though.
