Create job pathways to go from mail stream to financial stream. The employees have to already be some of the most trustworthy in the country to be trusted with packages. PO Boxes and safety deposit boxes feel similar offerings. They already check ID documents.

It feels like an obvious solution

I think Canada post should open a bank/credit union and have a credit card. They already have offices all over the country. People would love to have credit cards with stamp designs on them. The additional income stream would allow for higher wages.

Mail, parcel delivery to resume as postal union begins rotating strikes
Mail and parcel delivery are set to resume on a limited basis in the coming week as Canada Post workers switch to rotating strikes.

Isn’t that kind of depressing? Oh yes, it really was. The math is different for parents now though, the pay gap and IT is much smaller and daycare is cheaper

Do you wanna go back to working in IT? What and leave the joy of dishes and laundry to you guys? I mean, I suppose I could be that generous.

Mom, What do you do for a living? Help kids with math and hem clothes.

Don’t you have a degree? In computer science yes.

So? When I gave birth, I did the math and I realized selling my mom skills as a nanny (plus raising my own kids) would pay more than my IT skills and the cost of daycare.

Didn’t Noam Chomsky say something about how sports is used for both political indoctrination and distraction?

Isn’t this exactly that playing out?

I’m really glad I’m not alone in my frustration

We do rent a lot of gyms for soccer and community basketball but we get kicked out so easily…like if someone shows up slightly early or the benches get moved too often…

I just want the facilities to be run as municipal assets not school board assets.

Always do your cardio while dragging luggage. This is what we train for.

For example, I have been helping seniors not get ripped off getting cellphone plans. I take no money for this, the need is great. Starbucks is where we meet. They want me to run a class for their friends… but because of the lack of space, let alone walker accessible, it’s kind of a non starter.

Every single week there is a post like this in our community. There are all these new schools in our neighborhood built with “designated neighborhood rooms with external access” that turn into child care spaces and no community groups can access. Now if schools were treated like community resources…

And yes everyone is aware of all the rec centre, neighborhood house and legion halls. Turns out they get fully booked with regular frequency.

Yes there are bigger issues, but lack of community gathering spaces in the “dark hours” is a Vancouver pet peeve of mine.

My kid had to explain how to file your taxes (she’s 12 and has no idea): you go to the bank and you put some money in the tax machine and then it tells you if it was enough

dear kerkering: I don’t know who the first player was that committed an error, I can assure you not everyone will remember it

this is baseball, not nuclear war
nytimes.com
From @TheAthletic: Orion Kerkering is only the second player in Major League Baseball history to commit an error that ended a postseason series. No one will ever forget where Kerkering threw the ball, no matter how hard some might try. nyti.ms/48owLkr
Orion Kerkering sits devastated in the dugout after the Phillies were eliminated. A quote from Phillies manager Rob Thomson over it: “I feel for him because he’s putting it all on his shoulders.”

Dear textbook authors. Look your open source text book is already 1400 pages long. And it's free. You can give us answers to EVERY question and not just every other one.

*annoyed having to use AI*

Also can we have some more swimming pools please?

I feel that school facilities should be managed by the same people as community recreation centres. Shared maintenance staff, playgrounds tended to in the summer, bookable spaces outside of school hours etc. Parks board or not, that’s probably never going to happen.

My daughter read Harry Potter in kindergarten, 1/3 of her class still could not read by the end of grade one. It’s unfair to teachers. It’s unfair to kids.

She’s in high school now, and her peers use AI to knock off work they don’t care about so they have the time to do the work they do.

I’m sure there are better solutions than just our parenting principles. But there are solutions, education just has to adapt.

Some kids want to learn deeply and fully. You just have to give them the time and space to do it.
raincouver.bsky.social
These are our principles which we raised our child with. At schools that group based on ability and not age. Currently taking a smaller course load so she can engage deeply with the material. With full permission to take a course twice.

She is encouraged to use AI, but she doesn’t find it helpful
raincouver.bsky.social
Can you stop grouping kids based on age so it becomes less important to progress at the same time at the same rate as your classmates?
raincouver.bsky.social
could you get rid of the time pressure in school? If it takes a child two or three times longer to learn something than another child, but they still learn it can they not have the same grade? Can you let kids take part-time loads so they can learn deeply?

Most Canadian students surveyed admit critical thinking declining because of AI
Critical thinking is a skill many students admit losing as they rely on generative artificial intelligence, according to a new report.

…the landlords things is just a nod to “do whatever you have to to protect renters from this increase…and I’m sure there is a better method than just discounts”

TAX ME I own. TAX ME

I want bike/scooter/electric wheelchair lanes.
I want more soccer fields and longer recreational hours.
I want robust libraries.
I want bookable community spaces for low cost events like neighborhood board game nights.

Offer property discounts to landlords but TAX ME.

Ken Sim's property tax stunt starts with an arbitrary, politically-motivated number and asks staff to cut until they meet it.

We should be asking what it will take to meet the expectations of the people we serve.

I oppose Ken Sim's cuts.
