Angola has designated Lisima Lya Mwono as its first Wetland of International Importance. This very large #RamsarSite covering over 53,000 square kilometres lies in the central and southeastern highlands of Angola, within the Zambezi biogeographical region.

In 1975, Australia, Finland, Greece, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Norway, South Africa and Sweden ratified the Convention on Wetlands, creating the critical mass of early accessions required for the treaty’s entry into force.
