I just watched Orson Welles’s 1942 film “The Magnificent Ambersons”. RKO Pictures took the movie away from Welles and had Robert Wise remove 40 minutes from the director’s cut and film a ridiculous happy ending for the otherwise downbeat story. Nevertheless, everything but the ending is masterful.

I was there for the initial release of “Star Wars” in 1977.
I recently did a ranking of the 11 live action feature films because a friend of 40 plus years asked me to.
I didn’t really enjoy that process because, IMO, there was such a steep drop off in quality after the first two movies.
