I more and more think anything that Trump does or orders done in South America is just cartel infighting. Every time Nicaraguans make a drug bust, the cops display the perps and the haul. And they do regular vehicle inspections on road choke points.

My British friend called today to tell me that some professor wanted to take an abandoned cat and all her recently born kittens. My first question was "Is he a biology professor?" She'd thought the same thing and wasn't going to give him mom and kittens. This is a rough country for cats .

If someone is really looting his country, the opposition will be left to right and just ignore previous political differences to oust a dictator.

The thing always to remember is groups that call for US intervention in changing governments don't have popular support. Any group of Latinos that's large enough can change a government without US deciding who should be the country's next president.

There are a lot of fake charities out there, or charities where most of the money goes to the fundraising company run by someone's son-in-law or such.

Can you get Claro anywhere in the US. In Nicaragua, they're cheaper than any service I had in the US. Also, Tigo. These may be available near the Mexican border.

There can be real reasons for doing work on it, that should always go through historical preservation approval, and through Congressional approval.

I'm personally more upset with the murders of boat crews without any presentation of evidence that any of these boats were carrying drug shipments.

I ran Linux on a home computer for years. Go to Mexico, pick up a Huawei phone. Other Chinese phones may be not barred from the US, but may run Huawei's OS.

Huawei, but you can't buy that in the US because no Google Android or MS stuff on it so only the Chinese can spy on you, maybe. Check to see if they're running Huawei's OS, which was the plan.

Huawei if you don't live in a restricted country. Also has less MS on it. Otherwise Samsung is fine. Middle range Samsungs do just fine. Huawei is illegal in the US because they have their own OS and can't use MS software to spy on you.

Yeah, but Trump is betting on a corrupt asshole with a sister who may have cartel connections. Argentina is also watching what's happening in Peru (Chinese building them a mega-port).

Argentina had a libertarian do more damage to their economy than the previous guys did, and the US isn't as loved as they imagine. If Peru, which did sign with China, is doing better now than Argentina, it will be interesting.

Chinese soldiers have shown up in military parades. And the nearest Chinese food store is being built near a base on Lake Apanas. People in general are opening new businesses and rehabbing homes in the town where I've been living for 15 years.

Many countries in Central and South America turned to signing free trade agreements with China. Mexico hasn't signed yet. Mexico's president (PhD Jewish woman) suggested routing around the US. Nicaragua now has Chinese-owned department stores in almost every town with a bus station.

Reuters are right wing, "democracy is electing the people we approve of even if we know nothing about the countries where the US is trying to install a local with insignificant local support.

Reuters on Nicaragua loaded its Alamy port with anti-government photos in 2018, and finally uploaded the "both sides were armed and shooting" photos last year or so after taking foreign money was ruled to be treason here (six or seven year sentence, or exile). They're pretty much right wing.

In most of the civilized world, democratic socialism is centralist to very slight of that. We know that mixed economies outperform either extreme (total state control of the economy, total lack of control of the economy.
