We've reached the first milestone! The introductory part of Return of Fury II is playable all the way through. Now to polish, polish, polish while starting work on the next part. Aiming the game to be about 50 maps big-maybe more if we get grooving!

Love that old Symphony of Science song feat. Sagan. Btw. try this tool sourceforge.net/projects/sid... - it'll play SIDs correctly on NTSC, according to it's readme.

Started working on it, hope to have something over the weekend. Cheers

I'm hoping to whip up a proof of concept well in time for Halloween. I have a good idea what to do.

hvmec.altervista.org/blog/?p=1440 Music Assembler. Also check out the site, it got a ton of screens from popular and obscure editors.
rebelandroid.com
The editor is so old, it only exported binaries, not SIDs. In this case it was easier to just load up the tune, and save it from memory in Vice. Source-only players are the ones where you enter the notes in a text editor, then assemble to a bin/sid, no UI involved.

To track what changes you did in the past. In this case I had changed the player code since the tune was made, and had no backups. So I had to reverse engineer it, instead of just pulling out the history. :)

Well the reason is, anecdotally I admit, that apart from some crackgroups getting originals mainly via BBS, we didn't really hear from North America (nor South America for that matter) at all, apart from Eaglesoft :) - the distance was too great, and very few had modems here.

Thanks, I'll check it out. There are some modern tunes that use 2x, 4x and even 8x (number of times player called per frame) and I can get it can be messed up in NTSC. Interesting.

The thing is US was never on our minds back in the day. We got the hardware, but never gave a second thought to US. I've "studied" the history of C= and there was always a HUGE divide between the US and Euro market. To add, the Euro market was very profitable, while the US one was not, unfortunately
rebelandroid.com
It's definitely got a style of it's own, that is true. It's more leaning towards a Euro (Italo) disco style, for sure.

Weird tune indeed, not sure how well it'd translate into a SID to be honest. :)

"C64 Music" is the category to look for. The music scene sort of moved on from "melodic" and more towards a more "techy" style. But there are many new coming classics, just a lot more to filter through than back in the day. :)
rebelandroid.com
They're larger cos I ripped the sids myself from the editor files, not the "exported" file which would be smaller. Soundmaster and Music Assembler csdb.dk/release/?id=... are UI editors. Drumtex/Unidentified are variations of my source-only players. HVSC use sidid github.com/cadaver/sidid to detect

The search function I do not know. I recommend just follow this one: csdb.dk/latestreleas... and especially the C64 Music category.

I watched quite a bit of Bonanza :) Quite enjoyable. And some 200 episodes of Dallas... I have to laugh thinking about it.
rebelandroid.com
Ah, sorry. I read wrong, they'd NOT been converted to SID yet. :) www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uao...

I recommend you check out csdb.dk/latestreleas... and look at type C64 Music, there's so much superb music out these days. The best ones always get more comments, as a rudimentary filter.

I'll definitely release my future songs using CIA prg. I'm working on a game right now (it'll take forever), but I'll try my best at getting it running correctly in NTSC.
rebelandroid.com
Ah, I see. True, well, normally the programmer either requests which (normally 2) zp locations to use, or they easily work around it. I don't think it's a big issue, but it might pose a problem when using with Kernal/Basic switched in, as they use quite a lot of them :)
rebelandroid.com
No fb here. The list should be "ported" to DeepSID :)
rebelandroid.com
I'm a bit curious about the zeropage, what's the reasoning behind the request?
rebelandroid.com
Yes, did write the editor (I have a soundcloud with other tunes made with it, 6 channel ones.) I can always make a CIA version of the tune, but I'll rather keep that in mind for future releases. (Rambo is imminent) Never knew there was any interest in NTSC land, but now I know!

Check out Self Control as well, it's another 80s fav of mine (both versions!) and in this one I "copypastaed" Hubbard's effects into the player, which really shines through. :)

I had a custom tracker on Win that exported the note data into assembly statements, which was then compiled it into a SID. It had to be miniscule due to memory, which always is a fun challenge. It's one of my fav IRL songs and takes me back to my childhood somehow :) Many good versions on YT!
