I am so grateful that I got to interview Udo Kier a few years ago. He just wanted to tell me stories about Andy Warhol and I let him. It was one of the most interesting interviews I've ever done. What a wonderful talent. He will be missed. R.I.P 💔

Daniel Day-Lewis gives a phenomenal performance in his son Ronan's directorial debut ANEMONE (co-written by father and son). Surreal visuals and a haunting score highlight the story of fractured family bonds and violence. Like this a lot. #filmsky #fyc

Just sharing this again...I'm like 30 subscribers away from my goal for 2025 (free & paid). With losing my part-time job, I'd love to be able to focus on what I love while I figure out the rest. Any shares/subs would very much be appreciated. Thanks. 🖤
Anyway, in the wake of the job loss news, I just wanted to share my site because I’d love to get up to 365 subscribers for the year (free & paid) & if you dig what I do, maybe you’ll want to upgrade your subscription someday: from-the-desk-of-the-horror-chick.ghost.io

Speaking as a longtime Paul Thomas Anderson aficionado, Sinners was a way more important film — and a much smarter film — than One Battle After Another, which was entertaining at times but also full of misogynoir and bad revisionist readings of liberation movements

I enjoyed ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER. Some outstanding performances, great cinematography, and an effective score, despite basically just being white dude problems. The codespeak sequence with Leo was hilarious. Sure this will be in the awards conversation. #filmsky #fyc

Watching SANGRE DEL TORO on Netflix and Guillermo del Toro is not only a master of horror, he is one of the most fascinating humans on the planet. Seeing him praise Cronenberg makes me so happy. Love when filmmakers compliment each other's art. #filmsky #horrorsky

SIRAT is a harrowing thriller about a father's journey across the desert in search of his missing daughter and the bonds he makes along the way, accentuated by a techno score. Extraordinary film. Best international feature I've seen this year. #filmsky #fyc

People who post "they don't make good movies anymore" or "movies are better than they have ever been" definitely need to watch more movies. Watch old movies. Watch movies with subtitles. Watch different genres. Otherwise you're missing out. #filmsky

The way WEAPONS goes from truly unnerving stuff to outright absurdist comedy gave me whiplash. Also, I've decided Zach Cregger is really, really scared of old ladies. #filmsky #horrorsky

The madness and intensity of IF I HAD LEGS I'D KICK YOU is overwhelming, especially if you're a parent. Rose Byrne gives one hell of a frenzied performance. I still want to scream just thinking about this movie (complimentary). #filmsky #fyc

Shih-Ching Tsou has frequently collaborated with Sean Baker and her directorial debut, LEFT-HANDED GIRL, is a charming, funny, heart-wrenching story about family bonds. Co-written by Tsou and Baker, who also edited, it features some superb performances and a stellar script. Loved! #filmsy #fyc

There's been a lot of very sophisticated, compelling social commentary on declines in cultural literacy in recent years, but honestly it is very reasonable to just boil it down to "people no longer understand that things mean stuff"

In addition to making my way through all the FYC screeners, I'm very grateful and excited about a couple of projects I'm working on right now. Frustrated to be experiencing the most painful flare I've had in years, which has decreased my mobility even more. Moving slower, but I'm still going.

Kate Beecroft's directorial debut, EAST OF WALL, is a beautifully shot, thoughtfully told story of grief, perserverance, and heart, told from a female perspective. Love that a lot of the cast are the real people involved and not actors. Really inspiring story. On VOD. See it. #filmsky #fyc

Jodie Foster est magnifique in the somewhat messy, but slyly funny French psychological thriller A PRIVATE LIFE. She has such lovely chemistry with Daniel Auteuil. Fun, genre-bending mystery. #filmsky #fyc

I'm a fan of the 1985 film, so I was skeptical, but Tonatiuh, Diego Luna, and Jennifer Lopez make KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN completely enthralling. Great performances, wonderful costumes and makeup, and the musical numbers are lovely. 🎥 #filmsky #fyc
