Yeah, probably just wait and see how things shake out. Most likely that someone not in the org right now will be in the pen one way or another, is my guess. In my mind it's chap whit slaten x x moran x watson and the rest is not whatever, but it's likely going to be okay.

last season the red sox had 32 starting pitcher months where a player threw >10 IP as a starter. that's left to right. the best was early’s 32% K-BB% in sept, the worst was buehler's -2% K-BB% in aug.

Yes, the last 3 orange dots were Bello's May, Sept, and April.
February 9, 2026 at 9:38 PM
The first dot is Early's September, 32% K-BB%. He's still here, so it's there for last year and overlapped with this year. Then a few Crochet dots.... then a bunch of Suarez and Gray dots in orange that are much better months then the corresponding best months by Red Sox starters last year.

The blue line is every Red Sox SP month last year (>10 IP) and the corresponding K-BB%.

Orange is Crochet, Suarez, Gray, Bello, Oviedo, and Early.

So the overlapping first 5 are Early's September and 4 Crochet months. Then you can see the rising tide of the new rotation.

Updated players that pitched for the Red Sox last year by release extension

i agree on all accounts.

i'm guessing they look at durbin at 2b for a bit? the word has been the prefer to play mayer at 3B, so I'm not sure this should change that plan. idk
February 9, 2026 at 8:05 PM
My initial thought was he's due to break a finger in spring training.
February 9, 2026 at 8:04 PM
Durbin was apparently atrocious defensively in spring training last year, which bled into April, but then he became quite good at third base.
February 9, 2026 at 7:22 PM
If Durbin is going to "use the Monster to his advantage" and all that stuff, he's going to need to be much better handling inside pitches.

Durbin had a .334 OPB last year, and that was while leading the NL in hit by pitches (24).

HBP for batters has modest year-to-year correlation, so it's more than just luck.

Durbin's HBP rate
5.9% NCAA
3.4% MiLB
4.7% MLB

Durbin put together a nice 8-hit postseason by mostly sweet-spotting (8-32° launch angle) flares.
February 9, 2026 at 5:38 PM
Durbin came up and won the full-time 3B job with the Brewers out of necessity, but his career minor league defense time looked much different

Innings
2B 1286
3B 628
SS 343
LF 65
CF 9

They seem VERY open to dealing him…. But they seemingly now need him for his offense more than ever… but also curious if they eventually just take the best prospect/reliever package or something they can get. I really have no idea what Breslow is thinking. It’s all messy.
February 9, 2026 at 3:47 PM
Durbin’s similar style batters from Savant
February 9, 2026 at 3:39 PM
I’d rather Durbin than anyone they gave up, but he’s nothing special, and in the context of Breslow and Bailey openly talking about Harrison pitching in the front of a rotation it’s absolutely pathetic.

Waking up at 5:30 a.m. on Patriots’ Super Bowl Sunday to watch women’s alpine skiing was a choice

I want Neto bad, but that price would be insane (one i'd probabaly meet.) Turang is fun, but also going to be a massive deal that seems very unlikely for a few years.
February 7, 2026 at 11:33 PM
i'd guess 0%.

i think what's more likely is a "lesser"/different offer from the sox could get it done.
February 7, 2026 at 11:32 PM
i honestly don't know.... and i also think paredes is getting way over-valued, so my guess it wouldn't be a sox outfielder if it happens.
February 7, 2026 at 11:31 PM
I go Abreu fairly easily. Extra year of control and three years younger. One seems to be trending up, the other down. Duran probably has the ability to have the higher random season ceiling, though.
February 7, 2026 at 11:27 PM
1 for 1, either of our outfielders would seemingly be a big overpay for Paredes.

idk how desperate everyone is, though. Something like Arias and a pitcher makes more sense, but an outfielder for an infielder is a smooth transaction.
