She heads towards the precinct, after dropping Noah off, listening to the news radio station, the dulcet tones of the reporter turning into nothing more than a buzz in the background. Her eyes lose focus as she stares at her knuckles while she turns the wheel. He'd run his thumb over the thin skin and bones last night – Elliot had; his palm resting over the back of her left hand, her stomach had swooped as her mouth had gone dry and she had stared at the place where they'd been touching. He touches her easily, now, and she wants more.

My #wednesday100 was sparked by a chat with friends and was originally handwritten.

It's a list examining how to tell if something's platonic or romantic. Pretend that our protagonist is writing a list on her scratchpad calendar.

How to tell if something’s romantic: If they are or were the most important person in your life and you constantly hear their voice in your head during the important moments… If you drink from the same cup If you get a sandwich and split it in half If they rush to your side because they're afraid they lost you and seem genuinely frightened If you're concerned for them but can't stay near them because the temptation is too strong… If the lines are too blurry to even yourself. If they're your person If they feel like HOME… It's love.

She holds him here, between the cradle of her thighs with her fingers digging into the flesh of his ass. If he doesn't have half-moon marks there and she doesn't have to put bandaids on his cheek, she thinks it'll be a miracle. But she needs him to just… stay. She's trying to gather the courage to nod her head against the pillow and tell him he can finally move but it's taken so much out of her to get them here in this place she never thought she'd ever have him. Her fingers squeeze harder as she nods, “Okay.”

She thinks there's been a mistake, as she stares down at the line once more. NYPD liaison: Det. Elliot Stabler. She can hear the blood pumping through her veins. She feels like her whole body is vibrating with every beat of her heart. She presses her palm there, in the middle of her sternum, willing and wishing for the violence of the beats to subside. Her eyes look up and out of the blinds, to the empty squad room. She feels the tears prick the corner of her eyes as she finally sucks in a breath. What the actual fuck?

Don't read the last page. In all the years she's been handed a report, she has never found herself in the position where someone has written a postscript on a sticky note and underlined it; she can't not be curious about what's on that last page that one of her subordinates didn't want her to read. But it's not just anyone who wrote the note, it's Fin. Fin had taken over this case when she suddenly found herself in the middle of something pressing. She flips to the last page. Follow-ups to NYPD liaison: Det. Elliot Stabler. She can't breathe.

When Noah was younger, they used to whisper in one another's ears when they wanted to discuss something and didn't want anyone else to hear, or when Noah was uncomfortable. Now, her son is a teenager and doesn't whisper in her ear anymore. But he does text her occasionally, important questions that he's too scared to talk about out loud. Sometimes he'll add in an abbreviation for how he wants her answer, IP for in-person or TX for texts. Today's question has her baffled as to what to say. Was she… was she serious? “I already put on my pants, y'know.” She rolls her eyes, pulling her keys free from her pocket. “Maybe next time, then.” “Next time?” “When your dumb ass does something to land back here…inevitably.”
