Lots of feedback from Mastodon, LinkedIn and Bluesky. Here's an update:

Good point. We have a version with the buttons falling but that causes layout issues because the buttons/ribbons are at the top of the app and you want to have the headline below...
reichenstein.bsky.social
Takes out all the tension. The question really is how far can you go before people start being confused about what it is.

The headline outside the app does precisely that: It makes you imagine it inside the editor.
reichenstein.bsky.social
Probably depends. But that people are not being able to write because of the horror vacui is not something we ever heard in the last 15 years. :-)

Ha. Stemming is Germlish for "lifting". Wasn't aware that this doesn't exist in English. (I made the translation only to explain the German poster.)

I've always wanted to see iA Writer on posters in the streets of Zurich. This week we took a few days to make a draft. What do you think?

They are inspired by the VW bug ads from Ogilvy. I think they work as posters as well as magazine ads (magazine ads are not gonna happen though).

Thanks for pointing them out. Worked on it until one hour before going on stage. Need to go through it and clean it up, still.

Really enjoyed @reichenstein.bsky.social‘s thoughtful and entertaining talk at #smashingconf today! Amazing to see how philosophical ideas influenced the design of iA’s apps and what designers can and could learn from philosophy – and vice versa. A lot of food for thought!

Imagine a presentation app that allows you to write professional presentations in under 20 minutes. Its beautiful typographic templates automatically scale to any screen. Create, fine-tune, rehearse, and present your deck anywhere. And, you can do all of that on a phone.

Imagine a form field that looks and feels like your phone’s screen has a real indent. If the glass effect is tied directly to the surface interaction, the animation would feel consistent…

Design awards usually go to what’s new. But here’s the paradox: The only way to tell if a design is really good is if it stands the test of time.
So getting picked after 15 years is good news for good design. For ideas that hold up. For products built to last.

Cleaning up the website for iA's 20th anniversary this year. Almost through all the illustrations. About 20 are missing and some are still lame. We will go through all of them and fix tagging, categorization and formatting, too. Try to find hi res images, where available. Taking care.
