I don't think Nintendo has Virtual Boy just as a footnote, but as something they can't reproduce faithfully since it's such an specific machine.

Like, they put references to it everywhere, LaboVR feels like a proof of concept, and it kickstarted their sprint to put things in stereoscopic 3D.
